Jean prodded at the minds of the crowd, gently encouraging them to move on, the chaos left in the wake of an X-Men mission having left its mark all over. They did try to be subtle, not draw attention, but it didn’t always work out that way. And there was always an uncomfortable element to mental manipulation, especially now, after everything that had happened, everything she had done, but this, at least, was to save lives. Maybe if she saved enough, there’d be a time, eventually, when the balance would even out, even tip over. More lives saved than destroyed by her. Her mental grip wavered just a little, before she strengthened her hold again. Jean knew, she would have to save a lot of lives before that would be even close to coming true. Afraid she was going to lose the crowd entirely, she scanned her surroundings. Up ahead, she could see Logan and was about call for his help, but - no. The uniform was right, the stance was even right, an almost perfect mimicry, but she knew Logan too well to be fooled. Â
“You’re not Logan.” Her eyes narrowed, already starting to analyze the defences of his mind. In the past, she could have done both at once, but now Jean felt a wave of frustration with herself as her control over the crowd slipped. “You have ten seconds to tell me who you are before I make you.”Â
