it was a recorded fact that house arryn rarely, if ever within the past century, made the perilous journey down from the eyrie ─ even the conqueror had to send one of his sisters to bring the valemen to heel with her dragon, so to see the falcon of house arryn blustering in the wind had warmed the heart. vaela was not so preoccupied with her importance in the grand scheme of things as to assume that the presence of the valemen was a result of her assistance in the arryn succession almost two years ago but she had hoped that some fondness remained in the heart of rhea arryn whenever she came to mind. the matter in the vale had been one of her first official tasks as a representive of the crown. after vaegon had progressively declined in health, both mentally and physically, the reality of their precarious position had become clear to her and though she had struggled to find her place as easily as her twin brother had, answering the call for support had shown vaela just what could be done with conviction and a fire - breathing beast. it was with some excitement, uncharacteristic of the princess of dragonstone, that she found herself in search of the ruling liege of the vale, smiling wide enough that a few people ducked out of her path when she caught sight of rhea, steps quickening until they were strolling in tandem. ❝ i am glad that you came. ❞ an official invitation had been sent, but vaela liked to believe it was her personal letter that had sealed the deal, just as she liked to imagine them as friends of a sort. ❝ i apologize for leaving so abruptly when things were settled in the eyrie. my brother needed me and i was certain you could handle the rest once your people were reminded of the crown's vested interest in your success. have things calmed with the cousins ? ❞
