I do not think there are any mistakes here. I might be mistaken but, as far as I know, after reading âBand of Brothersâ and âA Company of Heroesâ, there has been a lot of confusion on Liebgottâs identity. Who are we to judge? Indeed, this is the statement: Â
âJoe Liebgott (portrayed by Ross McCall) is portrayed as a Jew in the miniseries, and based on his name, appearance, and utter hatred of the Germans his fellow members of E Company all believed that he was Jewish, but in reality, Liebgott was a Roman Catholic, the son of Austrian immigrants. He was apparently aware that his fellow troopers assumed he was Jewish but never bothered to correct them as he found it amusing.â
He found it amusing. We already know that the real Liebgott was Roman Catholic and he was portrayed as a Jewish person from the beginning in the miniseries, but was he really a Jew in the miniseries? Really? The thing about finding amusing and not taking the time to rectify his mates makes me doubt it completely. I have this crazy idea that even in the series (although he looks like a Jew and he really hates Nazi) he is still Roman Catholic. He just keeps the joke around. Again, I might be wrong and I am none to talk on his behalf but I was just making a point on the fact that being a Jew or not (regardless of all that fuss), he might feel a strong connection to his âother brothersâ and he could be thinking: âIf Hitler got me⌠.â Itâs just a crazy thought that I got. Nothing serious. Just an assumption. Not a big deal.Â
