#war game

The battle was followed a classic Extraction set-up, with the attacking player (not me) selecting a hex close to my starting edge where he needed to pick up a target - in this scenario a defecting tank commander from the 2nd Armored Regiment. His light lance was made up of a Jenner, an Assassin, a Panther, and a Commando.

The 4 opposing Bulldog tanks tried to navigate around, but could not quite get the fix on any 'Mech. Good flanking was done, and the supreme speed of the Jenner meant a quick in-and-out for the pick up.

Flanking made with the Assassin mean he was getting quite a few good rear hits, and the player and I both joked that the MechWarrior Assar was an idiot that argued in his very doofus ways with his superior officers and misinterpreting orders.

I proxied some GHQ Centurions as Bulldogs.

The image above had me remember a scene from, as I asked my player if he remembers, "an old Cartoon Network cartoon about WW1 pilots chasing a pigeon" - of which he remembers and we both sang the song "Stop the pigeon! Stop the pigeon! Nab him, jab him, tab him, grab him! Stop that pigeon nooow!"

In Swedish of course.

They intercepted a combined 'Mech and armored contingent rushing for the capitol city the seize the government, but the sitting Council Chairman (who directly hired the 1st Regal Dragoons) ordered them to intercept them just outside the city.

The player picked their Heavy Lance made up of a Wolverine, a Shadow Hawk, an Archer and a Catapult to fight against four Bulldog tanks, one Dragon, and a customized Orion.

The player won the uneven fight and they got a taste for it (they were excited already before this, and requested some kind of campaign with consecutive matches where choices mattered) with relatively minor damages to two 'Mechs, and the destruction of 1 Bulldog and both enemy 'Mechs. Fun moments like a duel between a Bulldog and the Archer on the edge of the match ending up with the Archer overheating because he Alpha Strike'd and it was the 2xLRM-15 and 2x-Large Laser variant. The MechWarrior is canonically a Finn with "Sauna" as her callsign - and a mad brawl as the commanding enemy 'Mech was trying to retreat, but it ended with a 4 'Mech brawl with multiple charges and a DFA.

The enemy Dragon got dropped on, and the resulting critical hit the ammo box.

The first turn of the campaign (the time is abstracted to 1 week = 1 turn) had to be cut short and map-movement wasn't performed and no larger-scale developments were done, but it the player got as solid start with bonus points added with the destruction of the leader of this force.

Though, as it will turn out, this was not the leader of the coup, but rather just one of the trusted "lieutenants" of the leader of the coup sent to make sure things went according to plan. Now that they evidently have not, we shall see what happens next.

Every red dot is a "hub" for the purposes of the campaign, with the blue circle and flag being the HQ of the player (capitol city) and his currently stationed force respectively, the yellow flag is the current position of the defected 2nd Armored Regiment, and the red flag is the HQ and Manor Estates of the leader of the coup.
