First of all: war is bad. Sometimes war is cool as a fictional concept, but the best and most charitable feeling I will ever have for any soldier in any conflict is pity, maybe compassion. The best they can hope for when thereâs a war is to go back home, traumatized. I have no more respect for the troops than for any of my fellow human beings, and sometimes way less, on account of all the wanton murdering, raping and looting a lot of them are prone to. âFreedom fightersâ some grudging admiration from me, but even then, itâs fletting, because then I canât help buut be hit with the horror of what war is, and that washes away everything. I donât believe in glory. I donât believe in war.
With this said, you know what my stance is based on. Now to my actual point: France mostly won through sheer overwhelming numbers, and because our generals didnât give a shit about losses. The biggest names in our military history have received their honours because they were good politicians, not good military commanders. Napoleon, De Gaulle, PĂŠtain, all were middling commanders who happened to not give a single ratâs ass about human lives as long as it furthered their political career.
These guys are not heroes. A heroâs job is to make themselves useless. In this, every single one of these french military heroes have failed, because none of them has ever tried. All they are is ruthless murderers driven by wanton greed.

got a lot of love for isenia (head of the wisers in part 1) bc she's a complete wiser purist who wants to see the total eradication of the nobility (valid) AS WELL AS a kingdom where wisers rule supreme and humanity is formally acknowledged as an 'inferior race' (not so valid) and like. she's a complete extremist lunatic and she IS A BAD GUY. she's a villain. her ideals are bad. in fact i actively pit the reader against her by ensuring she's directly harmful to our most lovable characters. so therefore in defeating her, hammari should - by the rules of stories everywhere - then take up the role of the hero. the hero defeats the villain, that's how it goes.
but hammari isn't the hero. the lone queen is a story without heroes. we have isenia, who is a real nate parallel in the things she's willing to do for her people and just generally her underlying Hatred And Rage, and then we have hammari, who is fighting the good fight but in an objectively immoral way. i just think it's neat
