Back in the day, many syndicated radio shows were distributed to stations on vinyl, like this one from the early 80s. They’re cool and unique to find, the cue sheets are fun to read (see the supplemental photos) and often they have interesting interviews and such. That said, I can’t decide which section of my collection to keep it with. Maybe with the Wang Chung records?

The only way to wander around the neighborhood and do grocery shopping is while listening to new wave! #FineYoungCannibals #Eurythmics #AnnieLennox #TalkTalk #WangChung #Translator #RomeoVoid #newwave #80s #1980s
One step forward, two steps back: Had a very musically fruitful few days, finding UK import 12"s of Wang Chung, Enigma and Journey (a picture disc!), as well as the 2010 limited pressing of Bloc Party's stellar debut, "Silent Alarm," with bonus 7-inch. Topping it off, I actually won a pair of tickets to see Brian Setzer in November (on Mrs. VinylAnswer's birthday no less), and did all my usual backstage stuff for work, covering Depeche Mode at MSG in NYC. BUUUUUT...I broke my turntable needle today. It was probably overdue to be replaced, but I've never swapped out a needle/cartridge before and the options required an inhuman amount of research—plus they're disgustingly expensive! It's been ordered on Amazon, so we'll see if a major klutz like myself can handle the installation.
Test Pressing for the first album by Wang Chung, back when they were called Huang Chung. Dated but pleasant. And it cost me more than 25¢; that's apparently from the old Sounds on St. Mark's Place in NYC 30-35 years ago.

Discover great performances and make amazing memories with multiple festival stages of live music, experiences, and more at Summerfest
Milwaukee's Summerfest was formerly a 11 day festival with numerous stages running from noon to midnight. It's currently three weekends running Thursdays-Saturdays. I went four of the nine days. Here are some highlights. Some hot days, some cool.
June 20th-very hot
Wang Chung kicked things off for me at 3:30. Played all of the hits and The Clash's "Should I Wang or Should I Chung" as a lead into their set closing "Everybody Wang Chung Tonight." On to see Badboy, Milwaukee's hard rockers with a Cheap Trick connection. The days of Summerfest are usually filled with cover bands and Substitute does a great job of hitting all of The Who's hits. 50 years ago, I saw Foghat at the Rockford Armory. They are still rockin', although performing "Play That Funky Music White Boy' in between their biggest hits "I Just Want To Make Love To You" and "Slow Ride" was a headturner. By nine oclock I was a sweating mess, so I left.
June 21st-also very hot
The highlight of this day was having all my children with me(we missed you, Darcy). Ben Rector was a crowd pleaser with his Ben Folds meets Mayer Hawthorne vibe. Ratboys put on a great show despite a mostly empty audience. I liked their new songs. We ended the night with Japanese Breakfast. It was nice to see this stage packed with rabid fans. Again, too hot to stay longer.
June 26-cool weather
Throwback Thursday didn't disappoint. My friend from Norhtbrook met my sister, her boyfriend, and I on this day. The English Beat kicked things off for me with "Save it For Later" and General Public's "Tenderness." They did a great job despite the loss of Ranking Roger. Next up, The Chameleons rocked the stage. It was great to hear these guys again after getting my ears blown out last October at Bottom Lounge. DEVO was next at a stage that was way too packed. "Girl U Want" and "Whip It" fired up the crowd and we loved them, but we moved on to The Psychedelic Furs to close the night. "Love My Way," "Pretty In Pink" and "India" for an encore made my day. Both bands have so many hits; it was hard to decide which band to see when.
July 3rd-another beautiful day. Happy birthday, Mom.
My daughter and I pretty much stayed at the Briggs & Stratton stage all day. Chicago's Friko kicked things off for us(my brother, sister, and her granddaughter joined us, also) with some varied indie rock. Next was my biggest surprise act, Atlanta's hey, nothing. They REALLY got the crowd going. We ended the night with what I had been waiting for all day, MJ Lenderman. His Wilco meets Neil Young sound was another crowd pleaser.
Every year I look forward to this festival (my dad used to take us every year and he sure was missed). And every year as I look through the guide, I regret missing some of the bands I didn't see(this year it was Chicago's Wishy). Oh well, maybe next year. ERIC EGGLESON

#sketchbook September 2022. A parallel pen #doodle #drawing of Jack Hues, most famous as the front man for #80s hit machine #WangChung, although he's also done work with Tony Banks of Genesis, various soul and Jazz sessions, and soundtrack work including music for his son, Jack Ryder, who is the director and actor. I was always a fan of Wang Chung, mostly for songs that didn't make the charts. While they were perfectly capable of catchy top 40 slickness like "everybody have fun Tonight" they could also do really brilliant art pop (e.g. "The Flat Horizon", "The World in Which We Live", and "Wait" from the 'to live and die in LA' soundtrack). #art #illustration (at SoFA District) https://www.instagram.com/p/CjC2zHBOCdq/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
