Can I pick your brain for a minute? Yes? Awesome, thanks!
Do you think in DH, if during the seven potters, that if the AK Hedwig took, wouldāve gotten Harry, how much do you think wouldāve changed? Would he have still met Dumbledore at KC and chosen to go back and finish it? Or because he didnāt sacrifice himself that it wouldnāt have worked with the horcux?
Iām 1000% in deep waters tonight on alternate DH
Thanks for even entertaining this!
Canāt wait(actually I can-because regular postings are a blessing) to see how you wrap up HUNTED šš„µ
Hi, Anon! You can, but you may not like the answer.
Basically, yes - loads would have changed. Mainly because Harry would have died then and there.
This is because it wasn't Voldemort that killed Hedwig, it was some random, unnamed Death Eater, in the period before Voldy himself joined the chase, so Lily's blood protection and the connection that it created between Voldy and Harry after his resurrection wouldn't have applied.
If the question is whether, if it had been Voldemort and not some rando, whether that would have made a difference, my answer is: no, and that is clear in the text
Essentially, Voldemort does cast a killing curse at Harry, during the battle when Harry is no state to either sacrifice himself or defend himself - and Harry's wand responds for him, recognising Voldemort as his mortal enemy and defending him as an after effect of Priori Incantatem from the graveyard at Little Hangleton. By the time Harry faces Voldemort in the forest, his wand is broken, so can't help him.
Also - thanks for saying such nice things about Hunted. Let me know when you've checked out the chapter I just posted:-)
ah, but you forget that it's a magic wand!
šŖ Hello again anon šŖ
In relation to this ask.
But would the wand stand for it? Arenāt wands semi-sentient in a way? Their finicky nature and the way they choose the wizard?
Part of this is based on fanfic so this is mainly speculation mixed with my own headcanon, but when a wandmaker carves a wand, I think that the wood itās made of speaks to the maker. Kind of like how some people buy fabric or beads and then let the purchased item tell them what it wants to be, instead of buying a supply in order to create said final product.
I also think that wandmakers are just an artist in another fontāthat is to sayāas an artist myself, a piece is finished when I feel that it is finished. Thereās no rhyme or reason, it just feels complete. And come the wand is ābornā I would think there is a pride or ego that goes with it. Wands can choose or reject their wizard. They choose their wizard, so why would they change themselves to suit their wizardās needs?
I believe wands would be too stubborn to allow themselves to be changed. Flexibility is but a facet of wand creation and profile, but to change the size of them is a whole other quidditch game.
To fix what is broken is one thing, to change what does not need to be changed is another. A scratched wand, a scorched wand, a beloved friend snapped in half. It will never be the same once fixed, once healed, but it needed to be fixed. A wand does not need to be shrunken or changed in size. That is selfish, and I donāt think a wand would stand for that.
So in that regard, I donāt think Harry would magic her wand down a couple sizes in order to conceal in her bosom. Sheād sooner stick it in her hair or use wandless magic than do that.
Thanks for the ask anon, this has been an interesting discussion on wands.
And this might be more of a plothole than actual lore, butā¦
In July 1996, Ollivander was kidnapped and imprisoned in Malfoy Manor, where he made a new wand for Pettigrew. So we know he was allowed and given the materials for a new wand.Ā
Lucius Malfoy at this point was wandless, his original wand was briefly in Voldemortās possession and then destroyed. Why didnāt he get a new wand from Ollivander? Oo Was he himself too broke (financially, emotionally?) Or did Voldemort forbid him from obtaining a new wand? XD
"The Herald of Amphora: The Silence of the Void."
"The Keryx overflow is too great for a standard Ollivander wand, they once again exceeded their expectations on creating not just bonding a wand wood with a dimensional origin core, but to successfully construct the first sentient regulator."
ā The Keryx is known to be a volatile form of magic unique to the void afflicted planet Amphora, found in the far corner of the universe. Prior to its annihilation, the Royal House of Akkaris are masters of studying and wielding the void to power the planet's ley line system, since their dying white dwarf sun doesn't produce enough energy required for their atmosphere.

Dan's Lore: First Wand
This wand wouldn't fit after few years of going through a lot of MC-ing but it chose him at 15:
Rowan, Dragon Heartstring, Supple, 13 inches
ā¦ļø Wand lore says:
Rowan wands generally produced powerful, hard-to-break Defensive Charms. This reputation for protection made it a prized wand wood. Rowan wands were also noted for its believed disassociation with the Dark Arts.
Danny survived a horrible attack at age 7, which left him anxious hyperaware and protective, especially of those who can't protect themselves. His shielding charms never fail and often reflect back a considerable magical force.
Rowan's dissociation from dark magic suits him well at first. Raised by somewhat religious muggles, he was genuinely disturbed by the very concept of dark magic / same as soul corruption. His future self would have some notes on that.
ā¦ļø The supple flexibility reflects his survival strategy: adapt or be rejected, and rejection means danger. But there are things he won't bend on, and the most sacred is family, including chosen family.
ā¦ļø 13 inches would be notably dramatic but not extreme. This reflects his attention-grabbing personality and less refined spellcasting. With all the subtlety of a bludger.
ā¦ļø His future wands' characteristics would change, however, the rather temperamental dragon heartstring core remains his lifelong perfect match.

Beast Wands!
These wands are known as Beast wands and are extremely rare.
Since there are beast spirits residing inside these wands, the patronus produced is naturally more powerful then others.
Since such a strong bond is needed to pair the witch/wizard with the wand, the beast inside is able to telepathically communicate with their owner.
The beast will come out in times of peril, if their owner is frightened or in danger. They often come out while performing defensive spells, such as Protego and Stupefy. (A lot of students get excited when a classmate has a beast wand during these lessons.)
If the wand is damaged beyond repair, a ritual is performed on both the owner and the wand. This allows the beast residing in the wand to merge with their owner, allowing them to perform magic without the use of a wand. When this happens, the witch/wizard is able to morph into the beasts form if need be.
If the owner were to perish, the wand would simply disintegrate, their beast dying with them.
When a witch/wizard bonds with a Beast wand it is a marvelous thing indeed. It is a bond between two souls who will forever be intertwined.
The ridiculous āwand allegiance changing via disarmamentā rule hamfisted into book 7 - which opens so many plot holes - couldāve easily been avoided ⦠if it was simply made clear that the Elder Wand is the only wand whose ownership depends on its masterās strength and whether or not its master is disarmed. Part of its specific raw power is that its loyalty can be easily lost if its master is able to be overpowered - whereas all other wands do not so easily shift allegiance, and thus would not switch owners during, say, Expelliarmus practice in a DADA class.
But there could also be an underlying layer that could call back to the seriesā theme of the power of love; it could be a misconception that only combat defeat can change the Elder Wandās loyalty, and love could also be a reason the Elder Wandās master could relinquish its loyalty. (I am convinced this is how Dumbledore was able to defeat Grindelwald even though Grindelwald had the āmore powerful wandā; Grindelwald would rather lose than kill the man he still loved.)
Yet that layer could be kept to subtext and never clearly elaborated on. If so, it frankly still wouldnāt affect the detail of Dracoās wand now working perfectly for Harry, because Dracoās loyalties were with Harry at that point and he wanted Harry to win, so his wand, and thus the Elder Wand, was actually shared between them until the end of the war. (JKR seemed to want it to look like Harry had to force Dracoās wand to change allegiance because she didnāt want them to be anything but enemies, but Iām not fooled.)
Regardless if the love layer is a certainty or not, the very idea of wands changing their allegiance couldāve been confined to the Elder Wand only and a lot of problems would be removed.
