Smokey Day, Part Two The Traverse City Turn of the Great Lakes Central got into town without me hearing it, but I later saw it preparing to leave town after a run to Amerhart, the lumber yard over by Williamsburg, Michigan. I then ran south down to where the former Grand Rapids and Indiana (Pennsy) crosses the Manistee River, between Walton Junction and Manton. It's not overcast today, but smoke from Canadian wildfires is mucking up the sky, the amount being stated as "unhealthy" levels. The EMD SD35 was built for the Norfolk & Western in 1965—I'm assuming it had a high short hood but was chopped. Later it was owned by the Montana Rail Link as the paint scheme shows.
