Update: Walnut sweater

I finally finished my walnut sweater! I mean even I can't remember when I casted on...

I'm just happy everything turned out so good looking. There isn't any major issue and in my opinion, you can't even tell that's self knitted and not store bought.

Now I'll need to wash the sweater and block it. It's the first time I block anything, bit I'm sure it's not that difficult. The pic's are pre-washing and I'm super interested how the blocking will change the overall look. I hope I can make the sleeves a bit longer in the process.

Update: My walnut sweater is done! It turned out pretty well.

Pink strawberry cardigan

I think this cardigans went popular around the first lockdown, when a lot of people got into crocheting, along with the viral strawberry dress. And since then, the design never really left my mind - I mean, just look at it. It's so cute and fun.

And it should be rather easy to make, since it's just a normal cardigan and a few crochet strawberries. I never made a cardigan, but it shouldn't be that difficult, right?

I love fun and bright clothes, especially in the darker season, but the main clothing stores don't sell cute while warming clothes. The last years I bought mainly men sweaters, cause they are a lot thicker. The disadvantage shopping in the men section are the colours: grey, dark blue, green.

So the goal is a warm and cute cardigan for the winter!

I think most of us have seen this particular sweater on the internet before. Since the very first time I saw this design, I loved it. This sweater was mainly the reason why I wanted to learn how to knit, because it's rather difficult to recreate this look with crochet.

Till now I never tried to make it, because I'm a bit afraid of the colourwork and all the tangling yarn in the process. I gave intarsia a try before and failed completely. Once I'm skilled enough at knitting I'll make this sweater for sure. Just look how fun the design is!

But before I can try to knit this, I'll need more experience and skills. I'm sure the process will be difficult and it'll take me a long time to figure everything out. Especially the colourwork will be pretty hard, without an existing pattern, and I never tried to make any kind of knitting chart myself. Therefore lots of challenges and new skills to learn!

Scrap sweater

I have quite a collection of various yarns - different materials and different thicknesses. Some are scraps, some are just small balls and other types I own several yarn balls of just one colour. They all have no project in mind anymore or never had, because they are leftovers from my grandmother. Most of my stash is acrylic yarn from the time I started to crochet and all my projects went wrong and needed to be frogged.

This year I want to sort out all my yarns and make something out of them. I'm not a big fan of storing and honestly need the space in my closet too.

But I'm not sure how to plan and knit or crochet this sort of sweater. It would be easier if all the yarn would have a similar thickness. I calculate that the whole process will take a lot of time, especially the colour choosing and deciding how the colours should be combined.

I definitely need to look up some tutorials on scrap sweaters and pick up some tips, before I can get started.

My sweater is slowly coming together. Next up is the ribbing at the bottom hem and then I just need to knit the two sleeves.

The pattern by handmade by Florence (free pattern) is so easy to follow, there wasn't a single moment where I didn't understand the instructions yet. Nevertheless I redid the collar at least seven times, because I managed to make the dumbest accidents: counting wrong, knitting in the wrong direction, didn't change the needle size for the stockinette after the ribbing...

But once I got the neck finally right, everything went smoothly, just round after round stockinette stitchs.

I'm kind of excited for this sweater, but I'll probably finish it right in time for the sommer weather.

Update: Walnut sweater

So I washed my sweater with a bit of shampoo and now it's laying in the sun to dry. I picked a good day for the washing, because it's pretty warm outside and the sun shines brightly - it's going to be cloudy the next days. Hopefully the sweater is dry in a few hours.

My yarn order came today!

I'm totally in love with the colours and glad that I went with the brown version. It's giving huge autumn/coffee vibes.

It was quite a challenge to get this special yarn, because drops is not a big, well known brand in my country. The first two online stores both declined my order, because they hadn't my choosen colours in stock. Once I stumbled across the third online shop, everything went finally smoothly.

Now I'm excited to have a bit of free time on my hands this afternoon, so I can try out the pattern.

It's my first time to try to knit a raglan sweater. I'm pretty optimistic that I'll somehow make it work, my recent handmade socks gave me a lot of confidence in my knitting skills. I mean, I can work on dpn's and knit socks! What is there that I can't figure out?

Regrading Updates: I'll tag everything on my blog with #walnutsweater in honour of the wooden bowl my wip is stored in. Years ago the bowl was used to store nuts in.

Bonus: Cat pics. She likes the smell, i guess. :)

I'm still not entirely sure, what kind of colours I should buy for my next project, the step-by-step sweater from handmade by Florence.

Because I'm still ill I had a bit time to pass and changed the colours of the original picture.
