Gamine - God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlefolk

The original footage was from a concert at the 12-Bar Club, a legendary venue in Denmark Street, (also known as Tin Pan Alley) in London. It was intimate (small) and atmospheric (noisy) and we loved to play there. It became a tradition for us to play there around Christmas time, so on this occasion we thought we'd have a go at a Christmas carol.
As you know, Christmas is a time of much merriment, and as you also know, Gamine have built a deserved reputation for exquisite sadness. How could we reconcile these two seemingly irreconcilable concepts? Well, having scoured the canon for a carol in a minor key, it became clear that 'God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen' would do the trick.
When we came to record this new version, we changed the title to 'God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlefolk' , as our marketing department discovered that there are not that many gentlemen left, and we didn't want to leave anyone out.

Wall of Sound - Seattle, Washington
Just got finished digging through the crates at one of my favorite Seattle spots, Wall of Sound. This place has the absolute best selection of small label offerings, super obscurities, lots of interesting stuff you aren't going to find at the shops that carry Mumford & Sons, etc. Be sure to look at the wall too, there are some killer rarities there. FUN TRIVIA: The most expensive single record I've ever bought was at Wall of Sound. It was a Boards of Canada - Aquarius 7" and it was mint with all of the little weird inserts still intact.
