What do you carry around in your pocket?
This question has come up twice this morning and it's not even 9am. A reminder from God that He's got my back on this and He's helping me to find inspiration for this blog.
My son was getting dressed this morning. He put on his hoodie, put his hands in his pockets and found so much stuff! Acorns, leaves, rocks and sticks to name a few items. Nothing remarkable, the usual boy stuff. I was a bit frustrated at the time, thinking about all that stuff ending up in the washing machine! *shudder*
A little later, on my way to work, I was listening to a podcast by Niall Breslin called #WakeUpWindDown. The subject for today was what do you carry around in your pocket?
There was a world survey of children's pockets. They found out that all over the world kids had similar things in their pockets. Lego, sweets, stones etc. Then Niall asked his friends what were in their pockets. He realised that they had things in their pockets that summed up their personalities. Notebooks, plectrums, photos of loved ones or sweets for example.
That got me thinking back to my son's pockets with their assortment of natural treasure. Those acorns have the potential to turn into oak trees. Obvious, I know. I'm a literal person. In the hands of an artist they could turn into many things. A mythical creature, a vehicle or a house. Potential is powerful and we're all full of potential too.
My son is bursting with potential at age 7. He has so many options to what his life could be in front of him but I also have potential. By listening to God's guidance I have the potential to help other people or change the world. Even if it's just one person at a time or a small almost unnoticeable change these things grow and gain their own potential to make a change.
