Rhett hadn’t expected to actually go to the Spring Celebration. He’d been invited, sure, by other faculty at the school. But he wasn’t really the type to go to town-wide celebrations. He was, by nature, a person who avoided too much interaction. This was a new life, though, he supposed he’d have to get used to being the person who volunteered for things like this because it was practically in his job description. He was supposed to have meetings with overbearing parents for god’s sake. It was going to be his toughest cover yet, and he’d worked with the mob.
At least he wasn’t the only one who didn’t seem to belong there. Wade was across the room. He’d actually managed to make friends with him during his time at Cherry Hill. The guy got stoned often and Rhett was invited along sometimes, it was nice to actually have a friend.
“Fancy seeing you here,” Rhett says, as he approaches, “I didn’t think either of us would be caught dead at this.”
