Mobile Ad Platform Vungle Offers Publishers Payouts in Bitcoin
By Tom Sharkey, Coindesk.com
Good news for mobile app developers who want more options when getting paid from their advertising revenue: mobile advertising platform Vungle has just announced plans to offer their publishers the option to receive payments in bitcoin.
Vungle is one of Silicon Valley’s fastest growing companies in the mobile app monetization space, and after receiving $17m in series B fundraising last month, the tech company is looking to expand its reach.
The move to start offering bitcoin payouts to the publishers of more than 4,000 apps on the Vungle network comes in response to demand from app developers who expressed their desire for more flexibility in receiving payments from their advertising revenues, says Vungle’s VP of Marketing Andrea Sharfin:

Leading in-app video advertising platform Vungle hit a major milestone this month, racking up 2 billion video views since its founding last year. The 2-billion-view milestone comes as Vungle announces its Series A — a $6.5 million round led by Crosslink Capital with participation from existing investors Google Ventures, AOL Ventures, 500 Startups, SV Angel, Maynard Webb, Scott McNealy, Tim Draper, and others. This brings total investment in Vungle up to $8.5 million. The last time Vungle was in the news was 2012, when they just hustled their way into the last spot in AngelPad, then raised an all-star seed round. Since then, Vungle has scaled dramatically – opening offices in San Francisco, London, and Berlin — and is delivering high-quality user experiences and a monetization channel for developers. “They have the most attractive video format on the market, which has allowed us to easily monetize Cut the Rope in a way that complements our engaging UX and widely-beloved content.” said Diana Moldavsky, CRO of Zeptolab.
Success Story: Subject of Mashable Branded Video Series Raises $6.5 Million
In Spring 2012, Mashable partnered with Microsoft and IE9 for a 16-episode documentary, Behind the Launch, which chronicled the highs and lows of launching a startup.
We received interest from dozens of startups and selected to follow Vungle, a San Francisco-based mobile advertising startup, for 10 weeks. Vungle let us film them fundraise, hire, network and, finally, launch, allowing the Mashable community to see a no-holds-barred account of the startup rollercoaster. Behind the Launch was Mashable's first foray into the episodic documentary format, and it was a huge success -- the series garnered more than 40,000 views and 53,000 shares across Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Google+.
Just over one year later, we're thrilled to share that Vungle has raised $6.5 million in Series A from Crosslink Capital, Google Ventures, AOL Ventures, 500 Startups, SV Angel, Maynard Webb, Scott McNealy, Tim Draper and SoftTech VC. The company has now raised a total of $8.5 million. Congrats to the Vungle team!
