Japanese food has always been one of my favorite cuisines. It has been my go-to comfort food. Every time I feel stressed out and tired or after days of depriving myself of some good food because I want to save up, I make it appoint to reward myself and eat some Japanese food afterwards. Also, I have this rule - you can never say no to Japanese food. You just can’t.
Whenever I pass by Ooma, there’s always a line outside. It made me more curious about the place and the food they serve. As soon as we got there we had our name listed and waited for no longer than 15 mins. Although I already have checked their menu online, I was still indecisive on what to order because I wanted to try a lot. Everything on their menu looks super good! I wanted to try their poke bowls but I was hesitant as the serving looks too big and heavy. I ended up ordering what I originally had in mind.
First up is a Miso Soup. It was the perfect starter for our Ooma food journey as it was also raining. I also had their California Taco Maki which is one of their bestsellers. The “taco shell” was actually a crispy seaweed and on top of it was the California Maki. They will give you this brush thing for the sauce because you can’t just pour it as it will make the bottom break and soggy. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed eating it although it was a bit too messy to eat. It did not disappoint and lived up to my expectations. It was one of the best things I’ve ever put in my mouth and I’m not even kidding. I would definitely recommend this if you’re going to eat at Ooma.
We also had some gyoza. Gyoza is actually one of my favorite types of dumplings next to Xia Long Bao. It was seasoned nicely but I didn’t like the togarashi on top. Having it on top of the gyoza was a bit of a downside for me. I wish they had a separate container for it so that people can just add it if they want some and control how much they want. Because I’ve low tolerance when it comes to spicy food.
I wanted to have some rice so we also ordered some shrimp chahan. When the plate arrived my co-worker asked “will you be able to finish it?” And without a doubt I said “yes”. So she ordered another one for herself. The menu already says that its good for “sharing”. I thought it wasn’t that many but the rice was just really compact. We were not able to finish it. It was good though. I actually wanna eat more but I was already getting full.
The main highlight for me on my Ooma experience was the tempura. That is seriously the biggest tempura I’ve ever seen and eaten. There was 7 pieces on the plate but we only got to eat 4. The batter on the tempura was just enough and the shrimp was really big. it’s not like the other tempura’s that I’ve tasted where its over coated and you could hardly taste and see the shrimp. Overall, I’m really happy and satisfied with my first Ooma experience. It’s a little pricey but totally worth it. Ooma has been now officially one of my favorite Japanese Restaurants. If you're planning to visit they do have branches at SM Megamall, Rockwell and Bonifacio High Street.
