the most terrifying thing about sohail is that he paved the fucking roads.
like lets get some context. the region sohail runs is decades behind the rest of the world in terms of infrastructure. there are just no paved roads whatsoever, even in the capital, even between major cities, its all just dirt and gravel and stone. and no one likes this, and like 7 of sohails predecessors were like "we can fix this, we can get some paved roads between our cities" and then failed bc there wasnt enough money and they couldnt convince the right people.
so then sohail comes along. his dad died violently literally a week ago, he just turned 18, and he most definitely is only being held together by multiple drug addictions and spite. and the first thing he says hes going to do is pave the fucking roads. not just that, but construction will start in 6 months on the dot. no one believes him bc everyone promised this and didnt follow through, and because he looks like hell drop dead in 6 months anyways, and because the province is still broke after the nightmare that was sohails father.
but 6 months passes, and theyre paving the fucking roads.
sure, his government seized and liquidated the assets of multiple law-abiding companies under extremely sketchy circumstances and that is how hes been able to pay for it all. people who talk loudly about this, not even as a criticism, just anyone who draws attention to it, disappears. you now live under the rule of a neurotic despot. but the roads are being paved!
