"Fucking hell, Phantom," Dash breathed, running his hands over his face several times before dropping them, "Would it kill you to say hi like a normal person?"
Danny didn't know what to say to that. So Phantom watched him a moment more, completely mouthless, until something that looked very much like regret crossed Dash's face. He pulled his knees up to rest his elbows on, and rubbed his neck, his mouth twitching in a way Danny could only associate with nervousness.
"Er," Dash said, averting his eyes away from Phantom, "Sorry, that wasn't cool, huh? Since you're dead and all."
Danny blinked. He didn't know what he had expected, but it definitely hadn't been that. The thought hadn't even occurred to him to be offended in the first place. Even if he had actually been fully dead, he doubted it would have bothered him in the slightest. Maybe he would have even spun a tale about how he had actually died while trying to greet someone properly for the very first time, and made it as dramatic as possible in the process.
But… this was actually the first time he could remember Dash actually apologizing to him about, well, anything. Even if it wasn't teeechnically Danny he was apologizing to. So Danny didn't know what to say or do in response other than raise his eyebrows- or what semblance his ghostly form had of them anyway.
Then Danny shifted, crossing his arms in front of him on top of the locker. His fingers gently clinked against the metal, and Dash glanced up, doubt creeping into his eyes. Then Phantom opened his mouth slowly, with a manufactured sort of creakiness to the movement, as if he hadn't done so in a good, long while.
