In Norse mythology, a vĒ«rĆ°r, or warden, is a guardian spirit who will follow the soul of a living person from birth until death. Usually invisible, a vĒ«rĆ°r will sometimes reveal themself to their charge as a small, floating light or the glowing outline of a person.
A related belief is that of the vƄrdtrƤd, or warden tree, a very old linden, ash or elm tree said to house spirits and protect the land on which it sits.
