things you said after you kissed me | things you said with no space between us
Hunk says, “Keith!” and he grabs Keith’s shoulders and reels him in and Keith thinks oh my god oh my god he’s going to kiss me.
Like, Keith is doing fine. Completely fine.
Hunk is a friendly guy, and touchy about it, and sometimes he grabs Keith and pulls him in close and Keith’s heart shoves up into his throat and throbs at rabbit-speed, but like—it’s fine.
It’s fine if Hunk doesn’t kiss him. Doesn’t kiss him, hasn’t kissed him, won’t ever kiss him.
They are seated on the edge of a cliff overlooking a plain of craggy gray rock on a random planet that happened to be halfway between them when Hunk messaged Keith. Hunk brought leftovers from a meal he’d served in a far-off galaxy, and Keith gave him a small piece of weird tech he’d been given on a mission last week, and there’s a swirling, brightly-colored nebula that unspools across almost the whole of the visible sky, and Keith thinks, so startlingly that it shudders down his spine: I could kiss him.
They’re seated very close together. The side of Hunk’s right thigh burns warm against Keith’s left.
Hunk’s headband is ever so slightly crooked. Keith’s eyes track down the slope and turn of Hunk’s nose.
Hunk glances over to meet him, gifting him a small, soft smile. Keith’s heart does the thing where it speeds too fast and stoppers up his airway, but he manages to smile back.
Hunk doesn’t look away, and Keith thinks—maybe?
He says, a tight-throated whisper: “Can I?”
Hunk’s brows pinch together.
Then his eyes widen. He says: “Oh!” He blinks. “I didn’t think you—I mean. Yeah! Yeah, dude.” Then he’s smiling again, even wider, and god, Keith loves that smile with the force of a punch to the stomach.
Hunk’s hands find Keith’s shoulders, curling in a warm, gentle, familiar grip. Keith thinks: Shit. Fuck. Was he waiting for me to kiss him this whole time?
Then he makes himself think about more important things, like the warm softness of Hunk’s mouth, and the screaming of his own pulse in his ears, and the hot thrill of excitement that sears all through his veins.
They barely pull apart, lips still brushing, to breathe.
Keith says, “Finally,” and feels Hunk smile against his mouth.
Hunk says, “For real, man.”
Keith laughs, and Hunk’s fingers curl tighter on his shoulders, and Hunk kisses him again.
