Remember sitting by the Christmas tree, peeling back the wrapping on what could only be an LP – but which one? And by which of your favorite bands? Then
Some more smoke signals from the collector’s arm of the Kansas City music scene.

A gathering in Kansas City this weekend highlighting some vivid voices in contemporary folk ... another Voltaire/Uncanned Music joint. Tickets are HERE and the social event page is HERE.
There’s a new regular Thursday joint stirring in the West Bottoms of Kansas City. The area’s most maniacal record hoarder’s come out of the basements to showcase they’re lot, aid us in musical discovery and keep us locked in the groove.
Posted on behalf of/in conjunction with Voltaire Presents. Voltaire is a restaurant, bar, small venue and vital cultural conduit to the greater Kansas City area.
:::::
On Saturday, April 8, we’re pleased to welcome a broad wingspan of the Great Plains’ most rooted-in-the-soil music makers. From Lawrence’s experimental pop duo Youngest Children to Columbia’s avant-folk hymnists Nevada Greene to the even further afield--the instrumental Coloradan dronescapes of Lake Mary, Voltaire will be filled with the live sounds of placid song. Expect a rare night of clinking glasses, whispered ebullitions and meditative groundswells, a night of spiritual music to witness and to share. All are welcome. We will be asking for a donation of $5 to support the traveling artists. The first of a new live music series in Kansas City dubbed Voltaire Presents, ongoing presentations in outbound, experimental, progressive and just plain worthy musical performance. If you have the means, please come support this proof of life.

DISMAL NICHE FEST satellite benefit + showcase @ Voltaire, Kansas City - 9/30/16
Dismal Niche is--first and foremost--a Columbia, Missouri-based record label producing and elucidating some of the finest sound artists native to Middle America.
In 2015, they launched the first iteration of Dismal Niche Music Festival, a 4-day celebration of performances highlighting a company of composers working in the outer limits of sonic mediums--ambient, drone, experimental electronica and sound collage. The festival returns for its second installment on October 6-9 in Columbia, Missouri and we’re pleased to help spread the word in Kansas City.
On Friday, September 30, we present a Satellite Benefit + Showcase for the upcoming festival at West Bottoms’ esteemed gastro-tavern Voltaire. The event will feature DJ sets by label head Matthew Crook as well as live performances by three festival-associated artists hailing from St. Louis--Jake Leech, Biggie Stardust & Solid Waste.
Proceeds from the event will go directly toward the Dismal Niche Music Festival offering resources to encourage and aid in the flourish of a rich, new cultural exponent to the region.
Performances will begin at 9:30pm and a suggested donation of $5 will be requested of those in attendance. There will be no advance ticket sales.
Dismal Niche Satellite Benefit + Showcase is an event created and promoted by Uncanned Music, a music programming service that specializes in ambiance for hospitality.
