The Dragon's Most Precious Treasure
Part one ~
Chaos was everywhere. The air tasted of dirt and blood. Metal striking metal and screams of pain echoed all around. I pushed myself up to one knee and saw the boy in green ready his blade that was already wet with my blood. I felt lightheaded. Whether from blood loss or exhaustion or the fact that the dark magic which has controlled me till now has finally left me. Maybe a mix of all three. The boy starts to charge at me and I see my death in his eyes. I may die here today but I’ll die as a knight should, with a weapon in hand. As he closes in, my mind flashes to the moment the witch’s hold on me broke. I recall that I was fighting a woman… Her features are all a blur to me, save that she shown like a bright light on this field of death. She was a warrior though. She seemed to dance around me and my lance when I fought as a man, and the same when I so dishonorably charged her as a dragon. I remember the boy joining the fight… Then the woman shouting something at me and feeling as though something broke deep within me. Now I realize that the woman had somehow broken the witch’s power over me! I owe her a debt I shall never be able to repay for the boy’s sword is high in the air and now coming down to sever my neck… At the very least I shall die as myself. But as the sword’s shadow falls over me a silver rapier intercepts the blade itself. I look on in utter amazement as the boy jumps away and into a low bow to its wielder, a woman… Then she turns to face me and what breath I still have leaves me. She is light in human form.Â
Her dress is muddy and torn but it can’t take away from her beauty. Though she is so small, power and confidence radiate from her. However, her eyes hold a gentleness in them I’ve rarely seen, especially directed my way. Her hair is like spun gold and atop her head slightly askew from the battle is a small crown… Princess Zelda! I was fighting with the intent to kill this woman?! Even though I’ve never met her I’ve heard her to be a very capable ruler. It is in part thanks to her that Hylians mostly stay away from my home in the Eldin Caves. I’ve thus never had any reason to quarrel with her. Yet the accursed witch has made us enemies. Now trapped in her gaze I feel shame overwhelm me. No matter the fact that I was no more but a puppet, I still tried to kill this beautiful creature of light. I drop my gaze to the ground. I claim the title of knight but now I am one without honor. I see her start to move towards me and cast my gaze up once more… And then I feel a sharp pain in my head or rather the back of it and then I’m falling once more into the darkness.
