I debated making VA a bloody mess because realistically, Sunday would never touch them in that state, but being under the shock of seeing them die overwrote everything else he might think of. When he reaches for their hand, he gets his hands dirty (figuratively n literally) to hold their hand for a brief moment, because his reluctance to get his hands dirty so earlier was the reason their death happened.
