Like, I knew going in she wasn’t sick + that it was her mother’s crazy idea and that really had some interesting potential. Because it’s SUCH a wild character dynamic and I wanted to see Maddy deal w/ that revelation but instead it kind of just gets shoved in the end as the magical “fix” scene so she and her boy can be together

Ideally, cut out the love story and just have a girl who discovers she’s not sick like she’s been told all her life by her doctor mother + tries to work out how to move past that kind of fucked up thing. 

Or, if you want, include the love story, but make it as an aside - like, she meets this boy, wants more but is trapped + then actually DEAL WITH the fact his father is a really shitty abusive individual and make it more about these two coming together in spite of their circumstances - like, there’s more than one way to be trapped inside a house sort of theme, ya feel ? 

idk it could’ve had this really intense, dramatic thing going on w/ a side of a tender love story between young kids trying to come into their own, but it wasn’t. 

I’m honestly so gutted that could’ve been so cool instead it’s just this awkward addition to the film in the LAST 20 MINUTES which annoys me bc there’s a whole ass 70 minutes of nothing fluff that pads out a movie that has absolutely zero to say
