This feels wrong to say on her birthday. Still, when people gag over the Graham Norton SOTT performance and say he never sings it like that anymore, all I can think is, of course, he doesn't sing it like that anymore because he learned how to sing it properly, so he wasn't screaming the ending notes and ripping his vocal cords to shreds. I am not saying I don't like the performance, but some people just haven't noticed how much better Harry's singing has gotten.
Side note, I see far too many people saying Harry has a horrible vocal technique, and I don't understand why they say that, because you don't even have to know how to sing to hear the difference in his technique.
They might crucify you for this but you’re right….
Don’t get me wrong Norton show is a solid performance. And I’m by no means a vocal expert. But it’s always sounded like all the high notes at the end of that particular performance are ripping his vocal cords a bit? Idk. I think it being the unanimous best rendition of SOTT discounts that—but what would you say his best live rendition of it is, in that case? I think ONO would have cleared if he had gone for the high notes….
I feel like he sings in a way that’s more restrained than it used to be, and people confuse that with having less powerful of a voice where it’s actually just a technique choice (and a smart one). They think belting = vocal strength and high notes = good singer, where actually the ability to switch through techniques and make interesting choices for where to do these things is what makes him stand out. His Tears for Fears cover comes to mind on this, where he switches through falsetto, head voice, chest voice, & belting seamlessly had me sooo impressed
