Leon got home close to five in the morning, the sky just starting to pale outside the window. The drive back from Raccoon City had felt longer than it was. Everything that happened there—the city, the lab, the chaos—was still clinging to him like smoke.
But the moment he saw Claire asleep in bed, the tension finally left his body.
She stirred when the door shut.
“Hey… I was waiting for you,” she murmured, voice thick with sleep. “I guess I fell asleep.” She chuckled softly.
Leon hadn’t even showered yet. His clothes still smelled like the road, like the city he’d just escaped. He didn’t care. Claire didn’t either.
She opened her arms for him without hesitation. Leon crossed the room and collapsed into them, laying his head against her chest and nuzzling into her hair like he hadn’t breathed properly in hours.
“I missed you, gorgeous,” he hummed, inhaling her familiar scent.
Claire’s hand moved immediately, drawing slow circles along his back while she held him close.
“I’m glad we finally have a cure,” she said quietly, lifting her hand to look at it. “This Elpis thing looks ugly.”
Leon shifted slightly, reaching into his jacket. He pulled out the small vial.
“I told them I wasn’t going anywhere without a dose,” he said.
He kissed her forehead gently before pressing the injector against her arm. The medicine slid in with a soft click.
Slowly, the dark marks from Elpis began to fade from her skin.
Claire watched it disappear, relief softening her expression.
“And Sherry?” she asked.
“She already has one,” Leon replied. “Sent straight to her.”
Then he leaned down again, pressing quiet kisses along Claire’s neck.
Her back arched slightly at the feeling, instinctive.
Time passed...
The room had gone quiet again, the early morning light slipping through the curtains. Claire was half tangled in the sheets now, hair a mess against the pillow, breathing slow and steady.
Leon sat at the edge of the bed for a moment, catching his breath, running a hand through his damp hair before standing.
He leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to her shoulder.
“I’m gonna take a shower,” he murmured.
Claire only hummed in response, already drifting back to sleep.
When he came back, Claire was asleep once more, curled under the blankets. He let her rest.
Instead, he went to the kitchen and turned on the coffee maker before stepping outside to the small bakery down the street. The morning air was cool and quiet, the city barely awake.
By the time he returned, the coffee was ready.
Leon set everything carefully on a tray—two cups of coffee and a small bag of fresh bread—before bringing it back to the bedroom.
He nudged her shoulder gently.
“Wake up, sleepyhead.”
Claire stirred, eyes still half closed as she pushed herself upright. She took the coffee first, then started picking at the bread right there in bed.
Leon sat beside her, watching her with quiet amusement.
As she ate, he began telling her about the mission—about the lab, the chase, everything that had happened over the past few days.
His eyes kept drifting to the faint marks he’d left along her neck and shoulders.
“…and seeing Grace and Emily reminded me a lot of you and Sherry,” he said, his voice softer now.
Claire hummed sleepily.
“Mm… really?” She was still half-asleep as she ate.
Leon chuckled under his breath finding the scene domestic after everything that happened, he was glad to be home.

AHHH sorry for the late post here, I love this fanfic i did. hopefully you enjoyed reading it too! Anyways, this is what Claire was thinking of when Leon was yapping about Grace and Emily
Every year, whenever he managed to squeeze a few days off, Leon made sure to visit Claire. Despite their hectic schedules, it was easy to justify their visits. However, lately, their schedules seemed to be constantly misaligned. Claire was always occupied—chasing leads, helping people, diving headfirst into problems that had nothing to do with her because someone had to take action.
Leon wasn’t much better.
Most of the time, he had no idea where he’d be next week. He yearned for more time with her—more mornings spent drinking terrible coffee in her kitchen, more evenings listening to her rant about motorcycles or whatever reckless adventure she’d gotten herself into lately.
But wishing didn’t change much. So whenever he could, he visited. Sometimes, Claire wasn’t even home. Those visits usually ended with him stopping by Jill’s apartment. Jill Valentine had agreed to look after Cowboy whenever Claire was away, which meant Leon eventually got to know her too.
At this point, their routine had become almost predictable. Leon would arrive, Cowboy would freak out for about five seconds, and then immediately remember there were more pressing matters demanding his attention.
—
Today Jill had asked him to watch Cowboy for a few hours while she handled something across town. Leon hadn’t seen Claire in over a month, not that he was counting. Cowboy sat beside the apartment door, ears perked up, waiting.
For Jill, maybe.
For Claire, probably.
For anyone else, apparently.
Leon leaned against the wall beside him. “You miss Claire, bud?”
Cowboy glanced at him, then gave him a look.
Leon frowned. “Wow. Okay.”
Nothing. Not even a courtesy tail wag. Then he remembered something. A few months ago, he had been sitting in Claire’s kitchen when he had noticed her talking to Cowboy in a way that initially struck him as absurd. She kept referring to herself as Mama.
At first, Leon thought it was a joke. Then, he noticed Cowboy reacting every time she said it. The dog didn’t know who Claire was. To Cowboy, she wasn’t Claire; she was Mama. The moment someone uttered the word, his ears would perk up, his tail would wag, and he’d immediately become attentive. Leon had laughed so hard that day that he nearly choked on his coffee.
Afterward, he tested it himself. “Mama’s gonna be home soon.”
Cowboy had practically launched himself across the room.
At the time, it had been amusing however, it was becoming a problem because Cowboy only seemed interested when Claire was called Mama, and there was absolutely no way Leon was ever going to get comfortable saying that out loud—not without feeling completely ridiculous. Cowboy let out a soft whine and shifted closer to the door.
Leon sighed. “Claire’s gonna be home soon.”
Nothing...Cowboy didn’t even acknowledge him.
Leon pinched the bridge of his nose. “This is humiliating.”
Cowboy remained thoroughly unimpressed. Another minute passed, Cowboy adjusted his position but never took his eyes off the door.
Waiting.
Leon stared at him.
Cowboy stared at the door.
The standoff continued.
Finally, Leon caved. “Mama’s gonna be home soon.”
Cowboy’s head snapped around so quickly that Leon was genuinely concerned for his neck. His tail immediately started wagging against the floor.
Leon groaned and let his forehead fall against the wall. “Yeah, okay. That’s embarrassing.”
Cowboy barked happily.
Leon lifted his head and narrowed his eyes at the dog. For a second, he swore Cowboy looked smug. And somehow, that felt exactly like something Claire’s dog would do, exactly like his mama.
After the events of Raccoon City, the three of them had been staying in a small roadside motel, waiting for the government to pick them up and for the chaos outside to settle. The room was cramped, and Claire couldn't help but notice how restless Sherry had become. A kid her age wasn't meant to spend her days staring at faded wallpaper and a flickering television.
One afternoon, while Sherry was taking a nap, Claire quietly pulled Leon aside.
"Come on. We're going shopping." Claire said as she made sure Sherry slept soundly before they go out.
Leon blinked. "Shopping? Where?"
"A mall a few blocks from here."
He followed without questioning it.
Claire smiled to herself. "I just... want to take Sherry somewhere nice. After everything that's happened, she deserves a reason to smile."
Her thoughts drifted to Chris. When they were kids, he would always find some excuse to take her out whenever life got difficult. Even something as simple as ice cream or a new jacket always made the world feel a little lighter.
"I figured we could get her a cute outfit," Claire said, already browsing the racks. "Besides, we could all use some presentable clothes."
Leon glanced down at his bloodstained jacket and laughed.
"Yeah... that's probably a good idea."
—
When Sherry woke up, Claire was already brushing her hair. "Where are we going?" she asked sleepily.
Claire couldn't hide her grin. "There's a zoo nearby."
Sherry's eyes widened. "Really?"
She looked around the room. "Where's Leon?"
As if on cue, the motel door swung open.Leon stepped inside, holding up a neatly folded outfit Claire had picked out. "I think this belongs to you."
—
They wandered through the zoo, stopping at every exhibit Sherry wanted to see. She laughed at the monkeys, stared in amazement at the elephants, and insisted on reading every information sign she could find.
Claire watched her with a soft smile.
"It's all uphill from here," Claire said hopefully as she watched Sherry standing in front of the giraffe enclosure, completely captivated.
Leon glanced at her. "You really believe that?"
Claire's gaze lingered on Sherry before drifting to the clear blue sky. She thought of Chris. Of scraped knees, reassuring hands, and the unwavering belief that no matter how hard things became, he would always be there to catch her. Chris had always been her rock.
Watching Sherry laugh, Claire made a quiet promise to herself. She would be that same steady presence for Sherry just as Chris had always been for her.
"I know it," she answered quietly.
Leon watched he for a moment.
He didn't know what memories were running through her mind, but he could see the certainty in her eyes.
If Claire was determined to become Sherry's rock, then he would become their wings. Not his own wings, but Claire's—to help them reach the future Claire believed in so fiercely. To push against the wind when they couldn't, and to remind them that freedom was always somewhere beyond the horizon.

Neon Suburbia Bonus Story: Still Life (With Leon Being Difficult)
ft. Leon & Claire
The third one was an accident. Or destiny? Or Leon refusing to cooperate.
Claire was cleaning when she found the Polaroids tucked away. She sat down between Leon and his paperwork without asking and raised the camera.
“Okay. Last one. Same pose.”
Leon didn’t even try this time.
He grabbed her, pulled her in, one arm secure around her, the other tilting her chin up. He kissed her like she’d interrupted something important—because she had and this was her punishment.
“Leon—” the camera clicked mid-protest.
Flash.
They watched the photo develop.
"look what you've done now" Claire said as yhey saw the shot
"looks good to me" Leon grins
Claire laid all three out in a crooked row.
“I can’t have anything with you,” she sighed shaking her head—giving in anyway.
Leon shrugged, slipping an arm around her like it had always belonged there.“Sure you can. You just keep upgrading." he shrugged.
“Looks consistent to me,” he said. “It shows we got closer. Isn’t that the point?”
His gaze lingered on the first photo for half a second too long. Then he exhaled, like he’d been holding something without realizing it.
Claire elbowed him lightly. “…You’re impossible.”
“Consistently,” Leon said, already pulling her into a hug, grounding himself in the now.
