We never met, but she's all I see at night
Never met, but shes always on mind
Who is my heart waiting for?
If every day I think about her
Yeah, every day of my life
Then tell me why I haven't found her
Jimin's own voice rings back to him through the practice room, reverberating through him as he moves. Hoseok sits on the floor, leaning against the mirrored backing as he watches the fluidity of Jimin's efforts. Even on his worst days, he flows from one movement to the next. A transition so effortless you wouldn't think it's real. Years of watching, however, attune you to the readable quirks of a dancer. A jerk, a slump, a twitch. Jimin is out of it, and Hoseok knows why.
"Three days until tour." He says, eyes narrowing on Jimin's feet. They hit the next mark.
"I know that," Jimin replies coolly. He makes his next spot, holds the count, and continues.
"Not with that dancing you don't."
Jimin huffs back, but doesn't speak. His pace quickens.
"Slow down!" Hoseok calls, starting to clap the beat for Jimin. "I know you want it perfect, but you have to focus for it to be."
Jimin stops, arms in the air. "Stop." He runs to his phone to pause the music.
Never met, but she's always on my mind
"What?" Hoseok rolls his eyes. "Don't take it personal!"
Wanna give her the world and so much more
"Shut up!" JImin slams his phone down, turning back to Hoseok. "she's singing."
Who is my heart waiting for?
-
The Twitch stream Jungkook had on in the background caught his attention, making him look up to his monitor.
I'll take her places they ain't found yet
I'll put it all on the line
"I really like this song," the streamer muttered, focused on her own monitor. She kept singing along before hitting a boss. "Fuck."
He watched, logging out of TikTok and slumping into his chair more. He had nothing to do, preferring to give himself a few days of rest before starting a tour. Plus, a good way to brush up on his English was watching an American streamer. He'd watched this one a few times. Her more monotone voice made it easier to follow along.
The streamer looked over at her chat quickly.
"The song is Who by Jimin," She read aloud. "It's about looking for his soulmate." She and Jungkook nodded at the same time. He hummed in agreement at the comment. He remembered holding Jimin just a few weeks ago, both distraught over the emptiness they'd all started feeling. The weight of one missing part to themselves was starting to weigh heavy.
"Have you met your soulmate?" She read again, squinting down at the chat. Jungkook refocused on the stream. She leaned back in her chair, pausing the game as she shook her head.
"No, unfortunately." She looked around, avoiding the screen. "But!" she pointed at the chat, as if it were someone she knew. "I know a few things about them. I have that recessive trait where I get flashes randomly, and I can see what they're doing from their perspective." She nodded along with the chat, "Yeah, pretty lucky. Hopefully, I'll find him soon. At least, I think my soulmate is a him; the voice is deeper, and his hands seem pretty big." She talked quickly, looking away from the camera.
"Jimin has the same thing," Jungkook muttered to himself. He suddenly found himself in a bad mood, not wanting to think about their search anymore. Jimin had been more reserved lately, not having had a vision in the past few months. He thought back to the notebooks Namjoon had splayed across their coffee table, sitting on the floor as everyone crowded the couch, grilling Jimin about the visions as he sat in the middle. Hair color, voice, height, street names, the list could go on.
"What do you know about him? From the visions, I mean?" She repeated another comment. Jungkook watched her lean back again, thinking hard. He knew that look; the decision to tell anyone about the contents of a vision was hard. He watched Jimin make it over and over again. It was hard to hear that your soulmate lived in America, or that she only seemed to speak English. Jimin always knew it wasn't something that any of them wanted to hear, yet he always told them.
"I need to watch something else," he groaned, rubbing his hands over his welling eyes. He reached for the mouse.
Knock knock knock. In rapid succession on his studio door.
"Jungkook!" Jimin and Hoseok yelled. "Let us in!"
"What is it?" He called out, moving the click out of the stream. He really did not want to be reminded of his failures right now.
"He had a vision!" Hoseok banged on the door again. "Let us in now!"
Jungkook jumped up, knocking his chair down to the floor and rushing to open the door. "What did you see, baby?" He asked as soon as he saw Jimin standing there, cupping his face gently.
Jimin gasped, stumbling back from Jungkook's hold, "Her," and pointed to the monitor across the room.
-
You inhaled deeply. "Ok. I'll tell you what I know so far 'cause maybe you can help me." You stared at the comments as they rolled in, not wanting to look at the monitor. It was too much like looking into a person's eyes at times. Some days were better, but today wasn't one of them.
"I know that he lives in Korea. I've heard him speak Korean a few times before, and seen signs as he drives around sometimes. I also know that he likes to make beats or sing." Your voice rose up the slightest amount at the end. It was a question for you. You saw too many different things and different studios to narrow it down.
"Something along those lines, He's got some sort of studio thing he rents out or something." You lifted your hands up. "But that's all I've got. Everything else is just quick glimpses. I've never even seen him looking in a mirror or taking a selfie." You read a few comments, exhaling at the funny ones. "Yeah," you agreed with one, "that would be helpful."
You shifted in your seat, pulling a foot up to your chest as you leaned forward. "Ok." You unpasued the game again, eager to stop thinking about the images flashing through your head. "Don't comment your soulmate success stories or you're banned."
-
"Are you sure?" Jin asked, leaning over Namjoon's shoulder. Namjoon, with all the other members crowded around him, seated in Jungkook's chair, watching you play a game. Jin held the notebooks up to the monitor. The drawings Taehyung did were close, but he still had his doubts. The eyes were wider, hair shorter, just not exact.
Hoseok looked through his fingers from the back of the crowd. "How is she not scared?" You moved through the horror game with ease, jumpscares rolling off you quick. You blinked rapidly at the flashing lights of the game's death screen, shook your head a few times, and restarted the challenge.
jImin nodded, "I'm absolutely sure." You turned your head to the side as you took a sip of water. "Look!" He pointed at the monitor, stretching past Namjoon. "I have seen that freckle, in that spot, in my visions."
Taehyung took the sketches he had done out of Jin's hands, holding them up so everyone could see. "I've drawn it," he ran his finger along the curve of your sketched neck, stopping at the freckle Jimin had made sure was in the right spot. "I've drawn her."
Jin tried to pause the stream immediately, pounding on the space bar. "Ahh!"
"Hyung!" Jungkook tried to stop him. "Don't break it!"
"Make it pause, Kook!"
"It's a stream, it doesn't pause!"
-
You sighed, leaning back in your chair as Twitch returned to the Home Screen. "That was a good one, beefcake," you said, hoping your fat cat was somewhere in the room.
"Mrrow." Beefcakes' small head emerged from the top of her cat tower.
"Yeah, yeah," you grumbled, standing up and stretching. "It's how I afford all that kibble, fatty."
"Brro."
"Sorry." You shuffled to the bathroom. No matter how tired you were, the routine needed to stay the same. You started with brushing your teeth, looking down at the to-do list on your phone.
PR pickup
Film PR
Gym
Tutoring session at 4 PM
You nodded to yourself before finishing up. You slipped into pajamas, gave beefcake a kiss, and went to bed.
-
"Are you sure this is gonna work?" Taehyung asked, slumped over on the table.
"Yes, keep bedazzling," Jungkook muttered quietly next to him.
"What if being autistic means you don't like rhinstones?"
Jungkook stared at him. "Then I peel them off one by one and give you bragging rights. Bedazzle."
"Ughhhh." He groaned as he picked up his glue.
They worked quickly in the background noise of Jin, Hoseok, Yoongi, and Namjoon huddled over Namjoon's phone. Their manager, Sejin, and a social media consultant rattled off the facts quick.
"She's been posting on YouTube for about 5 years, hitting more rapid growth after the first year when she shared her Autism diagnosis in a video titled: Autism: Enemies of Women and Puzzle Pieces." The group nodded along.
Their new consultant chimed in, "Mentions of soulmates include only two quick sentences in one YouTube video, in that one she talked about her soulmark, and then there is the stream you just watched. Her fanbase is actually posting a lot about this stream currently because it's the most she's ever mentioned a soulmate or even confirmed that she has not met them yet."
Yoongi leaned over table, resting his elbows on it and running his hands through his black hair. "Has she ever posted anything showing the mark?"
The consultant sucked in a breath. "No. Sorry."
He cursed under his breath and walked away, heading to Jimins' still form on their couch. He sat next to him silently before placing a gentle hand on his knee and rubbing in soft circles.
"Are you sure this is the correct P.O. box?" Jin asked, looking down at a text on his phone.
Sejin hummed. "Yes, and looking through past TikTok posts, if she posts the day after picking up PR, then she should pick it up tomorrow."
"So she could come to our first show?"
Everyone perked up, eyes on the group huddled around the phone.
"Yes," Sejin said, "We'll have someone waiting at the office when it opens to drop the package off, and if it turns out it's not her, we can make another donation to a foundation of her choosing and show our support for the community - works in your favor either way."
Sejin knew they weren't listening to the last part, hearing the whoops and chatter in the room.
"Thank you," Namjoon whispered, watching his soulmates hug and talk. They flitted around the room, talking to each other, crying to each other, kissing softly.
Sejin smiled. He knew how Namjoon sounded when he cried.
"Anything for my boys."
The call ended, and a three day countdown began.
-
"Let me try!" Jimin begged, reaching across the table. He had sat with Jungkook all night, long after everyone went to bed. He knew how Jungkook was, though; he wouldn't go to sleep until it was perfect. One of your videos played in the background, which made their heart rate jump as you ran across a highway, stopping at the median to pick up a small tabby. They talked for a bit as they watched, wondering if you kept it. Would they meet it if you did?
"Oh, now you want to bedazzle! You just want to be able to say you worked on it too." Jungkook retracted the bedazzling stick. This was your first impression of them, of their work, of who they are. It had to be perfect.
"Yes. Give it!"
"Too bad." Jungkook teased, putting the final stone in place. "It's done!"
