He never did anything worthy of your love. He wasn't kind-hearted or good like you were, he's done nothing to deserve your love and you still stood by him.

He knew you'd come to your senses one day and leave him. You'd find somebody new, someone kind and loving like you, someone who played guitar and sang better than him and could write all the songs that would make you swoon.

He's never told you any of these doubts, in fear that if he voiced them, they would become true and you'd abandon him. He suspects you know though, those wayward glances you throw his way that are less loving, more worried, are clear indicators of the fact.

So naturally, he does the only thing he can think of to get these fears and worries and doubts out of his mind. He writes a song.

Keith has never been a songwriter. Out of everyone in the band, that was always your domain, maybe Pidge, if they were in a creative enough mood, or Lance if he wanted to make another dramatic proclamation of love to Allura, but mostly you.

He thought of asking you for helping before he even started. Right as he sat down with a breaking pen and worn-out notebook, he already had his phone in hand to text you. He paused mid-sentence, deleted, and instead responded to your morning "I love you!" text with an "I love you too".

Fast forward to later the same week, during band practice on a day when you were slightly late because of some unforeseen mishap (you'd already apologized a million times in the group chat and Keith made a silent promise to drive you to practice himself next time, even if practice was at his house like usual).

Lance, being Lance, was messing around with your drums despite Keith's protests. With a begrudging apology, Lance left your drums alone (and Keith rebalanced your drumsticks in just the spot you always liked) and turned to bothering Keith who was hunched in the corner over his notebook.

"Ooh, what's this?" Lance asked, peering over to look at the pages.

"None of your business!"

"Oh, I get it, I get it, you're writing a love song, gotcha," Lance teased.

"I'm not writing a love song!"

You'd walked in then, just in time. "Lance, stop bothering Keith."

Lance shrugged, winked at Keith, then walked off back to his keyboard.

"Hey," you whispered to Keith, making a gesture towards his notebook, but make no effort to look any closer. "You wanna talk about that? Whatever it is?"

"Maybe later."

You nodded and dropped the subject. Practice went smoothly, save for a few minor arguments about key changes, and ended just about a half-hour earlier than planned.

You left with Lance and Pidge, promising Keith you'd come back with coffee. You noticed, he realized, that he just needed a few moments alone.

Keith flipped through the pages in his notebook, past doodles and notes about schoolwork he's forgotten, until he finally landed on the song he'd just been writing.

The music came easy like the lyrics had, so effortlessly and evidently himself. He wondered how if this is what songwriting felt like to you, like magic flowing through your veins.

He muttered the song to himself, under his breath and barely louder than his guitar playing, until you knocked on the door and stepped in, and he stopped playing to focus on you.

You set his drink down (his usual order of coffee with just enough sugar to keep the bitterness from hurting but not enough to call it sweet) as he unplugged his guitar.

"Thanks."

"Of course." You smiled as you sat down beside him, leaning into his side as you sipped your own drink (chai, drenched in sugar, smothered in cream, dusted with cinnamon). "You okay?"

He nods, pressing a kiss into the crown of your hairline. He always loved how you managed to smell like comfort bottled in a jar, like the best combination of summer sunsets and rainy days.

"Are you sure? I heard that song you were playing."

He freezes. "That was nothing. Just something I was working on. Doesn't mean anything."

"Keith. Any song you write is going to mean something. That's how it works. We write to share a part of our soul."

You thread your fingers together and gently squeeze his hand. "I promise to never leave you. You are the best person I've ever had in my life and I'm going to be yours for forever. Okay?"

Keith cracks a smile. "How can you say stuff like that so easily?"

"Because anything involving you is easy for me."

He leans forward to drape his arms over you in a hug. "Thank you."

"Always."

"I love you," he murmurs.

You grin, bright and cheery. "I love you too."

Keith doesn't necessarily understand you. He doesn't understand how you're so understanding or why you chose him, or how you were practically perfect, but he doesn't need to. Keith knows you'll choose him, over and over again, and he'll choose you from now until infinity.

All he needed to do was come to his senses and realize that you'd already come to yours and still picked him.

The yellow lion's tail readies itself to your location, swiftly you fly at the Black ones direction, making the shots miss the intended target, but hit his ally, in retaliation the black mecha bites the end of your fightership, throwing you away at the opposite direction without much force as he is hit by the lose bean of his companion again

Maintaining your focus you pull the stabilization lever as you deactivate the propulsors, making your ship slowly stop from spinning but also fall, and at the right time you ignite the roaring propursors again, hard enough to go imediatly back in the fight as you ram the yellow lion from behind

You fire at the black one, aiming for it's metal paws in a plan to make it stop flying, it tries its best to fly away from you, who were piloting it this time? Their leader? The small one or perhaps... oh those bastards

You direct your attention back at Sinclines ship, it's organic-like fighter right on the tail of the blue lion, suspiciously it never tried to change directions once, no evasive maneuvers, no, it was precisely just right out of his reach, enough to entice the prince but never enough to be actualy be caugh. A tactical flight too advanced for someone who didn't even had 5 years as a pilot to pull, but advanced enough for one of the fours experienced annoyances

You circle the black lion, it's head follows you, and when the light of Altea's sun to hits the beasts eyes, you see it's pilot, a tense, wide-eyed princess. You sigh, annoyed at this damn game they keep playing, hitting the COMMs and turning yourself to Sinclines ships private frequency "the princess is at the black lion, switching targets"

"SHE WHAT?!" As you fly higher changing directions, his ship immediately halt it's pursue "They will pay for making a fool of me!"

You end the call, focusing back at the battle field, but as yours and his filters were about to cross battles the blue lion jumps between you both, and the yellow lion pulls you back, grunting at the unexpected change of direction you curse them

They are trying to keep the prince out of the princess reach... they better stop letting her in the battle field, because this is ridiculous, if not blue, then black, thos cat and mouse game is starting to get on your nerves

If only Sincline was not so tunel visioned when it came to his current object of desire, you wouldn't have half the headaches you possess, oh how you wished his fathers plan to marry him off was that simple to succeed, but no, the bastard himself had a harem, what did he think his son would be like

But then again, you couldn't resent the princes' obsessions, it is, after all, the only reason you are still alive and not a slave anymore...

You twist the controls abruptly, changing directions again, evading the blasts at your direction, for a moment you see Sinclines ship pass by, the blue lion hot in his trails. Deciding best to keep track of the black lion, you seek it amidst the chaos, you will bring the princess to Sincline yourself if necessary, anything to get his mind back at the game

With the yellow lion hot in your pursuit, you ignore it in favor of chasing the black one, with quick glances you catalogue what is happening with the beastman battle as Sincline flys closer to it, probably in hopes to distract the blue lion out of his ass

You chase the black lion to the battles direction, bringing her right to Sinclines' view, but as you were about to ditch the chase and attack the yellow lion behind, you see the beastman turn its deformed face to the princes' direction, and in a heart beat you imediatly fly to him

You can hear his indignation and fury even before he opened comunication "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! SHE IS GETTING AWAY!"

you don't have time to send an answer as you plumber your fisgter-ship right in time to get hit by the beastmans' lazer instead of him

The electrical charge overloads your ships' systems, it shines red at the cockpit as the countless warnings display at the many screens, and you scream in agonazing pain as the energy runs deep into your bones

The last thing you see... is white

It was a fairly normal routine for the recently unbanished prince of the Galra empire, as is, far normal than any other quintant, his duties were taken care off, so prince Lotor has finaly gone back to his original plan of seeking an infinite source of quintessence, searching for abnormal readings around untouched lands by the empire

His generals ever alert, all administrating diferent things, Erzo as the pilote, Narti as the data administrator, Acxa is taking care of any signal in their perimeter and Zetrid... is bored out of her mind, counting the ships' screws or thinking very hard about something, he couldn't tell, but at least she wasn't angry at the monotony of this trip wich the prince takes as a blessing

If they could find something, anything close to what his mother had described in her research in Daibazaal... oh, it would put an end to his father's ways and start his own reingh far more amicably with the empire... but alas, he has found nothing yet again... and soon he would be needed back at the empire, else that witch plots something or worse, his father's awake

Looking through his notes, he analysis them again and again, comparing to recent dates they ahve aquire through the years, there must be a way, a conection to the outbursts of quintessence that happens around the universe, the ocult is only science that has not yet been explored... by him anyways

"Sire" the prince jumps to attention at Acxas voice "abnormal readings are being detected at the next quadrant"

He opens her screen in his throne, immediately decifring the reading at a glance, his eyes dilatate in his interest, those readings match "set course to them quickly, we do not know how long this will last"

"Ay ay captain!" Erzo laughs and they feel the propulsors take the spaceship faster though the galaxy

It takes two vargas for the readings to die down, and one more to reach the location, saddly it was completely unremarkable... not surprising but still frustrating, with a deep sigh Lotor rises his hands starting the analyzing systems, as expected a quintessence burst did happen around this place, flowing like a river between the stars, but from where....

And that's when the normal routine, became an unusual one

"Sire, we are receiving a distress signal" Acxa informs, a confused frown indicating her disturbance "but... it is... strange"

"How so?" He asks, not really paying attention or even considering answering it, too focused at his task at hand to care for whatever soldier was incompetent enough to be lost so far from the empire

"It's... it's coming directly to our private chanel"

Now that picks the prince interest, he turns to her, and his general continues, now more confident in her report "and its... extremely close to us, weirdly enough, our radars didn't detect it..."

"Can you provide visual for us Narti?" He orders

The blind general nods, Kova turns his head to the monitors as she taps, not even a tick later at the main screen surges an image of, indeed a Galra fighter... but this... this fighter it is...

"Wow" Erzo comments, mocking the screen "isn't that model like, super old?"

"Might even be older than your father sire!" Zetrid chips in, a booming laugh at her awake

"Indeed" he agrees, not looking away from the relic at the screen, it's wings weren't even movable "but what is it doing here..."

The odd location, the older ship... could it be... that it had anything to do with the quintessence burst? Or better, could it's pilot have witnessed it?

"Acxa, establish conection" tapping his trone, he grants permission to open communication "I want to know who is in there... if there is anyone to begin with"

This was great, absolutely fantastic, best thing that could have happened really... you wish that bean had killed you

"Just my luck" you sigh, taking off your battle helm

Your engines are busted, you can't move at all, you already did all you could, wich was just... transmitting a distress signal to Sincline's armada... wich could be... anywhere...

"A teleportation bean" you grumble to yourself, so far away from civilization and so tied that your crafted persona started to slip "of course it was a teleportation bean, of corse that thing can teleport people around why couldn't that witch have warned about this..."

You trow your head back, getting comfortable at the cockpit, might as well let all the frustration out before all eyes and ears follow your every move again "he's going to kill me from "deserting" the battle... "

"No... that would be mercy..." the stars look so diferent... and you have got used to their patterns, their locations, wherever you are... it is far from the empires reach... you reflection stares back at you, you look tired, so tired, a mess, and yet, human...

Your round ears proof of that... at least it was at the beggining, who knew so many alien civilizations also had round ears... but you were... are... you still are human... even if... an... abnormal old one that hasn't change apearences for... a long... long... time...

"Maybe he won't even notice I'm gone" you smile bitterly "especially if he does capture the princess... heh... death by starvation... what a way to end..."

Succumbing to the very thing you ran from all those decades ago...

"In coming comunication" the robotic voice of your sistem breaks you spiral "Galra space-craft identified"

A galra space-craft? But why? How? What is it doing this far away from civilization? And most importantly, it shouldn't have been a generic space-craft to receive your location much less...

"This is comander Acxa from the Galra empire" pick your distress signal "unadentifed fighter present your credentials"

Unless... you request video permission, not a second later it is granted

With a deep breath you state your name " prince imperial Sinclines' of the Galra empire personal servant, how did you get this frequency?"

And at the screen shines back a familiar figure... familiar, and yet... diferent

"That should be my question" the voice... it is the same "this is my private chanel, and I hate to disapoint, but there is no prince Sincline, I hope a prince Lotor will sufice instead... "servant"..."

He states your title with doubt, you can see the distrust in his eyes, and yet... the galra at the end of the other screen looks so much as your prince, the similarities almost uncanny, and you fear it was not a teleportation bean... but a time traveling one

With all the bravado that your tired body can muster you answer in jest "your highness... what the fuck are you talking about and why are you purple?"

The galra prince does his best to not seem surprised, there was a human at the other end of the screen, calling themself a servant to a prince named Sincline... of the galra empire... the old ship their arcaic clothes, but still no sense, from all his knowledge the planet of the paladins has just recently developed spacecrafts sofisticated enough to travel their moon safely for research

It does not, by centuries, match with the fighter this human flies, by all means, even a human ally would be impossible to achieve since Earth has yet to be conquered in any meaningful way, so why do you call yourself a galra servant...?

And then you jest, a contrast to your formality prior, you seem to... confuse him with who you serve, for a moment he considers playing the part, but something in his mind is iching, if he lies only to get you closer and imprision you he might lose any chance of ever coming closer to the truth

It's not like you can go anywhere, he is your only hope of survival, so why bother with such lies "I think you have confused me with someone else pilot, for I have always been... purple as you said"

Your teasing smile disapears instantly, a frow deepening your features, and with one simple question, you pick his interest "... what year is it?"

He informs you, in universal usage, the despair in the humans face is fascinating to the prince

"Ohhh a time traveler..." Erzo whispers, Acxa shots her a warning glance, and the pink girl rolls her eyes

Their posture changes, the dark circles in their eyes pronounce, all formality gone, resulting in only a tired soldier "decades... it was fucking time traveling bean... because why wouldn't it be a time traveling bean...."

Lotor shorts all you said into categories, theories forming at his head, you could be many things but what is this bean you mention, is it connected to quintecesse? Is this how you appeared here? was it you that caused the burst? Can you replicate it?

"What is your fathers' name, boy?" and he frowns at you, boy? He is far past his youngling years

"Be careful with how you adress prince Lotor human" Acxa jumps at the conversation "insubordination is not a good look for a servant... if that really is your title"

"Thank you Acxa, but I think our wayward pilot knows vey well what their situation is" he grumbles "my father is lord Zarkon, empreror of the Galra empire... for the last ten thousand years"

The shock couldn't be more rewarding "ten thousand years?!"

"That can't be right it would overlap with Daibazaals' reigh..." they mutter, more to themself and yet all too clear for the manage to pass across the comunication line

"Daibazaal" the prince continues, curiosity a flame "is the mother planet of the galra empire, once it probably was indeed a name of an emperor, but no more... human... how did you get here?"

"..." they pull at their face, a deep sigh leaving their lips "before anymore questions... I need to know, is the witch Honerva alive?"

Lotor feels his blood draining, his eyes sliting in focus, his body rigid, all amusement and curiosity gone, now only alert, the eyes of his generals bore into him in surprise

LISTEN the moment you two are alone for the night the first thing he takes off are his gloves. Why his gloves? Because he wants to feel every single inch of you with his hands that he can.

He loves to hug you from behind and pull you in close by your hips. To him, the feeling of your soft skin is heavenly and it is the softest at your hips. Maybe its so soft soft because it is always covered?

Lots of lazy open mouth kisses are placed on your neck and shoulders between questions about your day.

Grins like a cat at every single gasp or moan you make for him.

A normal nightly conversation goes like this "Keith I need to get changed." "Let me help you with your clothing then" "No because these will end up on the floor and me on the bed." "The PJ's will be on the floor either way."

Sometimes that earns him a kiss and the freedom for his hands to roam. Sometimes that earns him a playful shove away.

On the nights you let him undress you Keith takes his sweet time. finger tips trail up your sides and he'll place kisses at new patches of exposed skin.
