Artist of the «Lianozov Group». One the first who turned to metaphysical abstraction: geometrical figures have sacral value, especially the circle motif. Since the 1960’s created compositions in the collage technique with lace, brocade and other ancient fabrics.

Steinberg is one of the major non-conformist artists, the most striking representatives of the second wave of the Russian avant-garde. His creative journey began in the middle of the 1950’s with the use of realistic objects. Latterly, he moved onto ‘metaphysical still-lifes’, characterised by a lighter tone.
