Rave (que en inglés significa delirar), es también un acronimo Radical Audio Visual Experience, haciendo referencia a una experiencia radical audio visual, apócope de Rave Party o Free Party.
Se trata de un evento de música y cultura al aire libre o en algun lugar abandonado (fabricas, aeropuertos, casas rurales…) que dura como minimo 24h, aunque por lo general se extendien desde el viernes al domingo. Incluso en fechas señaladas puede prolongarse una semana completa. Casos extremos se encuentran en Goa (India), donde se celebran fiestas de varios meses non stop. En las raves gratuitas los DJs, MC u otros miembros de la cultura electrónica mezclan todo tipo de estilos musicales.
