A thought about visual magic
There is something about visual magic, the immediacy of the public reaction, that has made magicians (and audiences) to fall in love with it. However, I believe that if the initial visual impact is not built over a solid effect construction it will be difficult to sustain the magic in people's minds: logic will defeat magic by unraveling the mystery.
Where the secret is hidden behind one sleight onlly, there are necessary few elements that are rarely found together: good misdirection, be able to perform the sleight in a way where it is both unsuspected and unperceived, and the the construction of the effect itself makes impossible for the audience to reconstruct what happened and work out the method.
