So you want to listen to Vistlip?
…and you don’t know where to start? Well I got you. I like talking about my favorite bands and I love recommending music.
So, I won’t go into details about the band, you can look that part up. All you need to know, imo is that they're still active, underrated, and have more variety in their work than their latest releases showcase. That's where I'll focus on the most, in this post, variety, as it was songs like those that made me, personally, a fan and also give a better idea of the bandmembers' skill (again, imo). Anyway, let’s get to the music.
[side note: Some fans might disagree with my choices or think I should add 1-2 more songs, but this is just an opinion. If you wish to make a list of your own go ahead, every person has different criteria on what feels easier to listen to first, or showcases a band’s colors best.]
alo[n]e was one of their earliest releases and very characteristic of the era they started imo. This is the type of sound I had likened to vkei bands of early 00s, sth that was very specific in other bands' sound too like Danger Gang, Alice Nine and sometimes even Screw, at the time. I loved the guitar highs, their soft scratches in the back of the sound and how Tomo was playing with his voice. I also love the mv, but that's besides the point. :P It's an easy one to listen to, too, if you're just starting out with them.
I usually don't do that, but it's nowhere and it's unfair they haven't uploaded it. Such a good song!
By this era they'd already got their signature sound, which you might feel like sounds the same in most of their songs' choruses, but due to the arrangement of the rest of the song here, it was assimilated/mixed better imo, making it more fun and a good combo of the Vistlip main sound with sth heavier.
Goodness I love this song. It's laid-back but playful, & it's giving me a jazzy-like feeling for some reason. It's very faint but it's there.
This is casually in my top 5 favorite songs of theirs. The low voiced rapping, the beat, ugh! Give me a good mix of rock with anything I can dance to and I'm sold.
The vibe of this song is so good. And the ending kills me every time. I'd never heard Tomo do a vocal burst before. It felt so painful for some reason. Such a beautiful ballad (I mean IF this one's considered a ballad, cause it does have a not so ballad-y part)
The back and forth of Tomo and Umi, the angry instruments during the convo and then going to the usual soaring, hopeful sound at the chorus...I was obsessed when this came out.
There're a couple more songs I had in mind, but they're unfortunately not uploaded & I already feel bad for sharing one myself so it is what it is. Also, I know I didn't speak much for other instruments as much as vocals and guitar here, but the songs I go bazingas for Rui's playing do not stand out as much as I wanted for what I was going for, in this post, and Tohya feels like he brings all the instruments in your face with his playing, makes the sound slap more, anyway, so I couldn't think of one song where he particularly stands out from the rest (however I do notice him a lot in Cold Case & love his drumming there), especially since Yuh is obnoxious with his guitar and let's no one else have the attention xD (complimentary). Like the drama of this man when playing is beyond me. xD
Anyway, I hope you find sth you like, if not, it’s ok, we all like different things, but yeah, this was my attempt to entice more people listen to one of my favorite bands, Vistlip.
