🐉Dragon: What is one thing your character would protect at all costs?

I feel you on the bots/scammers, I'm also on AO3 and it feels like every other week I'm hearing about some new bot tactic :(

But I love the writing community in this particular little corner of Tumblr! What's the body horror work about?

Yeahhhh the bots suck rn. But onto body horror!

Viscered is about a father (Cole) taking care of his 10-month-old son (Nova) after the death of his wife (Julia), and his past as a bio-weapon comes back to bite him in the ass, so now he’s on a roadtrip across southwest US to possibly cure whatever body horror mutation stuff his son might have inherited, all the while the organization that made him tries to hunt him down. He also comes across plenty of new faces along the way!

Heya! Gonna pick Viscered for this one!

Almost all of the characters in Viscered are bi or pan. There’s only like two straight characters, and yes they’re both antagonists that I want to hit with a shovel. This mainly comes from me just…wanting more pan and bi rep in media.

As for the second question, if it wasn’t obvious enough to any readers so far, Viscered is mainly about conformity under patriarchy. Sure there’s body horror and bio weapons and gore but imo The Horrors of Patriarchy is supposed to be what really scares the reader, what makes them feel crushed and stricken with dread, because that’s what the characters feel bc they don’t fit the mold of what the patriarchy considers “normal” (and no patriarchy doesn’t reward masc people in general. Fuck off with that TERF shit.). Patriarchy fucks everyone over, even the people you’d think benefit from it, though that’s not to say it oppresses everyone equally. Quinn and Cole’s suffering under patriarchy isn’t anywhere near the shit that characters like Mia or Julia go through, but I think this intersectionality is required for the sake of nuance. Not to spoil too much, but there are trans characters in Viscered, and hopefully that’ll add another layer to it.

Minutes of her ramblings ascended into a full hour. Cole, despite that, visibly softened with each new bit of information she dumped into his head. He nodded along, maybe with a few “Mhm.”s and “Uh-huh.”s. Sure, not much of it made sense, but it was a nice alleviation.

Julia slowed down when she noticed his lack of foot tapping or tensing at every odd-worded phrase.

“S-Sorry, I should stop-”

“You’re not botherin’ me, keep going.”
