According to the Hindu lunar calendar, Ganesh Chaturthi falls on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, during the Shukla Paksha Chaturthi of the month of Bhadrapada.

Mythological Significance

Hindu mythology states that in order to protect her privacy, Goddess Parvati made Ganesha out of sandalwood paste. Unaware of who he was, Lord Shiva cut off Ganesha’s head in rage after being prevented from entering. Later, after acknowledging his error and at Parvati’s request, Shiva placed the head of an elephant on Ganesha to bring him back to life. Ganesha was favored as the first deity to be worshipped after that (Pratham Pujya).

How Ganesh Chaturthi is Celebrated

Beautifully crafted idols of Lord Ganesha, embellished with clothing, flowers, and other decorations, are brought home by devotees.

Offering sweets like modaks and laddoos, bathing the idol with Panchamrit, and doing aarti every day with loved ones are all part of the puja rituals.

A festive ambiance is created by decorating homes and pandals with rangoli, lights, and flowers.

Traditional dances, devotional singing, and cultural events enhance the festivities.

The idol is carried in a large procession and submerged in a lake, river, or sea on the last day, Anant Chaturdashi, to represent the cycle of creation and dissolution.

Spiritual Significance

As Vighnaharta (the remover of barriers), Buddhi Pradata (the giver of wisdom), and Mangalmurti (the bringer of wealth and good fortune), Lord Ganesha is revered. People think that starting new projects, companies, or travels at this time will bring success and happiness from God.

Ganesh Chaturthi Rituals at Home

The puja area should be cleaned and embellished with rangoli and flowers.

Position the idol on a red or yellow cloth-covered altar.

Use Panchamrit to perform abhishek.

Present fresh clothing, flowers, fruits, laddoos, modaks, and ornaments.

Finish with aarti, which the whole family will fervently chant.
