that’s pretty much on the money re: how lip plumping glosses and scrubs work; the former do so by causing mild irritation akin to, say, eating a hot pepper, that causes a very slight swelling of the lips, whereas the concept behind many scrubs can be allied to that chemical boost but also is based upon the idea that microtears caused by sugar crystals or whatever scrubbing agent is being used will force the lips to repair themselves by boosting collagen production. the science behind this, as you can imagine, is somewhat dodgy in places, and whatever results you may see are likely to be short-term only, not to mention the risk of actual allergic reactions or more lasting damage.
