Tell It All ( July 2018 )

Recently our favorite and often-troublesome Pop-Rock-Funk band released their junior album and it seems to open a new chapter in Afterparty’s story. The eleven-track studio record dotes that signature carefree and wild Afterparty sound, while somehow still showing that the band have matured lyrically and conceptually.

The opening track, DNCE, is a perfect introduction to the album and the band if this is your first time hearing of them. By track five, we’re reminded that Afterparty is more than a pop group with songs about sex and partying; they’re actually good lyricists with ballads that tell a story and make you wish Vang and Kelley penned the song for you. The nuances of each song and the album as a whole are not something completely expected from a group like this. Their debut album in 2016 was sort of one-dimensional, though it certainly launched the band into popularity and marked their place on the pop charts. 2017′s Just Between Us fell a little short of the sales of their debut, but already in its first week, Tell It All has topped their self titled album. With lyrics like ‘i can still feel you on my skin, like poison ivy. how could i let your love blind me?’ and the ever-catchy ‘heart racin’, fast pace now, feel your touch in my bones. bass movin’, still going, got me seeing gold.’ Afterparty reestablishes that they are a force to be reckoned with.

From the neon-rainbow and same-sex kiss album art, to the signature sound; the killer guitar solos to the falsetto melodies; Tell It All is a step-up for this puzzle-piece group and we couldn’t be happier.

INTRODUCING AÇAÍ -- Billboard’s No. 2 Emerging Artist

Making the leap from YouTube comedic dream dream and cover artists to mass circulated pop duo has never seemed so simple! AÇAÍ, as they’re called, ( named after the iconic superfruit and composed of best friends Nathan Garraty & Kendall Bailey ) has exactly one single on the radio but already, their name seems to be on everyone’s lips. With it’s intriguing background instrumentals and lyrical themes of homoerotic tension and mutual toxicity in a relationship, Deny U stands out, even in a summer that’s been chock full of new music. Bailey’s airy, feminine overtones are perfectly complemented by Garraty’s throatier bass notes, balancing out the track harmoniously as the two sing about an undeniable chemistry which persists despite a relationship heading for ruin. The accompanying music video seemed to show sparks flying between the duo themselves as countless, artistically lit shots painted them in compromising positions which left little to the imaginations of their audience. Those familiar with the pair’s YouTube channel were quick to support this new venture into mainstream music and called into radio stations in addition to promoting the single on twitter. Once it broke into the pop charts, the song gained traction and along with it came a slew of new fans who were quick to call out that Bailey and Garraty should just date already. A quick dive into AÇAÍ’s video archive shows that their relationship status has always been a hot topic and one that they expertly avoid talking about in any explicit detail. That evasiveness only adds to the intrigue and definitely has the general public eagerly awaiting more from this LGBT pop duo

THE TIMELINE OF KAILANI & SIMON

kailani & simon lee met in 2015 when kailani was working on her fourth album, aloha. the two had been connected through kailani’s manager to email after kailani had found simon’s work on soundcloud. they corresponded over email & collaborated on a bunch of tracks on aloha including, love like that, drunk on you, all that matters & i know. 

after years of being friendly via email, texts, & social media, the two had their first real meet up in 2016 after simon dropped out of college & became more known in the music industry. only this time, he was known under the moniker won, instead of simon lee. they clicked as friends very quickly.

as won became more & more known, kailani’s friendship with him became dubbed as kaiwon. many people were convinced that they were dating secretly or that kailani was the reason for the break up of simon & his ex girlfriend, rhiannon. in truth, they were just really close friends who would never think about dating each other. 

that didn’t stop people from shipping them & thinking that every love song they worked on was about the other. in 2016, they collaborated on the song real off of kailani’s ikaika which is about being real, open & vulnerable with someone. when the personnel came out & people saw that won had written it with her, it sent kaiwon stans into a frenzy.

although they have both been quite vocal about their friendship being nothing more than that, they have had cute moments, such as when they went out for lunch & played footsies in la & being caught dancing together at the wayfinder music festival. it seems like they sometimes go out of their way to tease & troll kaiwon shippers, but always maintain that they are just good friends.

everyone has been obsessed with vivi ever since she was featured on ₩ON’s ( @siwonhq ) single, ‘powerful’ last year. vivi released her ep ‘atmosphere’ on october 20, 2017, leaving fans wanting more! the edm-influenced pop singer took to instagram earlier today to announce the release of her newest single, titled ‘i got you’ which is set to come out this saturday. our sources tell us that this song is going to be a hit for the summer and is only the beginning for vivi.

after a three year hiatus singer/songwriter ja san returns on may 18th with a new album and, with it, a new sound. in an exclusive interview, san revealed this he felt this album was a show of his soul and pure talent, and hopes future music will be just as in tune and on fire as this album. the album showcases a completely different sound than the soulful, indie folk style of his first album “ chaos and the calm “  — instead, it brings out a new pop rock kind of sound to impress all his fans that have long awaited his return. tracks wild love, pink lemonade, and us were released prior to the actual album.
