saturday afternoons are never too busy – so the manager has taken this time to invite the new photographer recruit over to his home for coffee, a friendship blossoming before the necessity of business draws boundaries. on an open deck dappled with midday sunlight, the two discuss deeper subjects, already an hour into a gentle and mellow high from scott’s shared joint. the pine and sycamore trees that populate the property listen and whisper, a light breeze breathing through their leaves.

“Tell me, Perry,” Stephen inquires, voice gentle and thoughtful, his blue eyes searching the other’s face. The art student has a unique honor: normally, most of Stephen’s acquaintances (and they are almost always unsavory ones) are always addressed by their last name. Perry, however, as in most things, is different. “Why is it you’ve never considered self-portraitry?”

“It isn’t as though I mind modeling, you understand,” he elaborates, “on the contrary, I find it my raison d'être most days... but, surely, between the two of us... you’d make a far more pleasing subject.”

At the sudden admission, his gaze darts downward toward the miscellany in his arms, mainly an assortment of props and costume pieces, not to mention the trunk of makeup at his feet and the lights around them, as if he’s afraid of the reply (he is, but he prefers pretending that there’s a small chance he isn’t).
