Lester Sinclair: Leap of faith
Warning: pissed off Lester and fear.
Rose gripped the wood of the table in front of her. Staring straight ahead to the blurry nothing ness of their kitchen. Lester paced back and forth from the table in a huff.
"Come on, you stop that right now Cher. Tears aren't going to change this. You know what you are suppose to do with this" Lester said
"it won't work" Rose said softly
"you don't fucking know that, and you ain't even willing to try?"Lester exclaimed in both anger and exhaustion.
"you know why" Rose said softly. fingers digging into splintering wood of the table.
"No, I fucking don't. but you sweetheart. So lay it out for me. why are you against this" he asked, trying desperately to understand her. wanting to hear one god damn explanation that didn't sound like bullshit.
"Don't you wanna see again. See things clearly. at the very least be able to read a book and not get a migraine or have me read to you? don't you want to never pick up another god damn Braille book again?" Lester asked
"It's far, we'd have to travel across the country, I'd have to take time of work, you would too because I won't be able to take care of myself. "she said head turning towards him a bit.
"I'll drive you anywhere you want to go, I don't care how far, or how long it will take. Hell, I'll steal Bo's truck to give you a more comfortable drive if you want" He said which made her snort a little bit dismissively
"that wouldn't be worth the fit he'd throw" she said
"it be worth any punch or shit talk Bo's got in him and believe me. I've seen the worse Cher. and don't start telling me it cost to much. I've got savings and your insurance is willing to pay for it. " Lester said, before she could even open her mouth
"your brothers are against it" she pointed out
" fuck em both then" Lester spat which made her jerk up at that
"no, Don't say that. Not for this.Not for me" Rose said so softly
Bo's against it because of how long and how far we'd have to travel. Vinny against it because he's afraid of what you'll think of him when you see him clearly and because he don't trust doctors. They both'll fucking get over it. "Lester said looking her dead in the eye. chest puffed out like he was ready to fight God himself.
"you's upset about this too" Rose pointed out
"No cher, I'm not upset. I'm angry. I am smack dab pissed off because I know you are to God damn stubborn to take anything from the pain. Even though its been how many years? "Lester said smacking the table hard making her jump a bit
" Seven" Rose said softly
"that's right, seven whole years sober and you still wouldn't take anything for it would you" Lester all but sneered
"I won't be addict again Les... don't put me in that position. Don't ask that of me" She said hands trembling a bit.
Seeing that, Lester backed off just a bit. Took a long deep breath and slowly let it out.
"it will hurt, it's gonna hurt bad Les, and all for something that we don't even know will work. that has like a 40 percent chance of working. that probably won't even been permanent. Might give me 10 years of sight before it fades again. "Rose said and the tears were threatening to come again.
"think of all that you could do with 10 years sweetheart. All the books you could read, all the shows you could see, all the sunrises we could watch even if they are in black n white. Hell, our Childrens faces' Rose. you could see them for yourself. Yeah it's gonna hurt, you are to damn stubborn to let it be anything but pain, but if it does work. Think of what it could give us!" Lester said taking her hand in his. His were sweaty and she was shaking.
"I don't get my hopes up Les, or yours. " her voice trembled. tears rolled down her cheeks
"don't leave it up to hope Rosie, give it to faith. Have faith in me that I can get us there and get you through the surgery. we'll be alright." he told her gently
"you'd do that for me? "she asked him
"Honey Suckle I'd give you my own eyes, my teeth and my balls if it would make ya happy. And doing this, having that back. It'd make ya happy. "he told her making her snort just a bit
"...okay.. okay I'll do it Les. We'll do it" she said so softly he almost didn't hear her, but he did. So he pulled her into his arms and let her shake like a leaf. At least she was going to try and take leap of faith.
