WHEEEE!

Percy was lying in wait to ambush some Apollo kids when one of them tripped on him. With a cry, she fell on her face, arrows sliding out of her quiver willy nilly. Panicked, she scrambled at them, trying to hurriedly put them back, but only managed to spill them again. She had somehow gotten an arrow stuck in her ponytail. She glanced at him fearfully. Percy recognised her.

“Victoria?” he asked cautiously.

“Yeah,” she squeaked, backing away. Percy saw that she was bleeding from a scratch on her head. Probably from a rock or something.

“Hey, it’s okay,” Percy soothed. “I’m not gonna hurt you. Did you hit your head”

Victoria nodded, still tense. Ready to fight at any moment.

Percy saw that he wasn’t going to get her cooperation if she saw him as a threat. Slowly, he removed his helmet, and set riptide on the ground. Then he raised his hands to signal peace. Victoria relaxed a little. Percy examined the wound.

“It’s not deep, but that doesn’t mean it’s not serious,” he said, imitating Chiron. “You could still be in grave danger. Victoria, child, how many hooves am I holding up?”

That got her smiling. “Eight.”

Percy glanced at his hands. He had both up, and was holding up three fingers on each. He hoped Victoria was joking.

“Okay seriously, how many fingers.”

“Eight.” Victoria looked confused about why he had asked her twice.

Percy glanced in the direction of the creek. No one else was coming. Even if they were, he needed to get Victoria some medical help.

“C’mon. Let’s go find the real Chiron.” Percy helped her up and tried to support her by putting her arm over his shoulder, but she couldn’t reach. A few minutes later, Percy was carrying her through the woods, listening to her compose nonsense poetry.
