sonar knows that he has a bunch of bat dna mixed in him. so essentially he thinks he's able to only make one pup a year, like usually bats are. but turns that no... not really. they go to the doctors to check on their, allegedly, one baby (somehow. since i don't know if it would be able to work to make an ultrasound since it's a bat hybrid child?) and as soon as they get to find out how many children they have, it's three. it's three freaking baby bats inside herm (because apparently some bats can have more that one pup! up to four). they have no idea how that happened and what to do.

Victor talking to his mom and the team hears a bat squeak, which lead to his mom crying and hugging him. They're all so confused, why is she crying? What did he say in bat???

Baby bats have their own special call for their parents and she's crying because she hasn't heard him make that sound since he was a kid. He really does love his mama.

Sonar also threatened to eat anyone if they dared to disrespect his mother by saying something sexual like calling her a milf or making a "doing your mom" joke.

and the thing is, sonar is DEFINITELY the biggest momma's boy ever. he loves his mama so much and she loves him even more, but he needs to maintain his alpha male image.

like she's on team z for being an accomplice to her most recent ex, who breaks up w her when they hear she's being rehab'd

so she's sobbing to everyone about how unfair it is and they all feel kinda bad for her

pretty soon they stop taking pity on her altogether

but he's in the break room one day eating his lunch when she walks in to put her head on the table and sob into her arms

cut to a week later, & he's flinching every time he hears her name

and yet, still, every time he makes an attempt to break up with her it goes horrendously

it goes like this:

he goes up to start the conversation, slowly and carefully approaching the topic—maybe a little too carefully, at least until he blurts out that "i think we should take some space from each other"

then, the big watery doe eyes come out, followed by the quivering pouty lip

"so there IS something wrong with me?!??"

and then the backtrack ->

"no!!!!! nonononono—that's not what i meant baby! not at all!!" 😰😰

"there's... there's not?" *sniffle sniffle* 🥺🥹

he makes up for it tho

he can't help it, he feels bad :(

he ends up buying chocolates and flowers and teddy bears—y'know. all the shit girls like or whatever

she makes up for it too

the synergy when they go on missions with each other is off the charts

maybe a little too much chemistry between them, as a matter of fact

she could be overstepping his boundaries, smothering him, and he'd be on the verge of dumping her when—oop, it's mission time

and god does she look good beating the shit out of these assholes

it's been more than once when the team has to scream at them through the comms to turn off their mics if they're gonna horse around after a job

Which is Robbie AND a Witchs’ fault. I'm thinking this witch is the godmother!witches' ass of a relative who they have fighting with Hatfields & McCoys style. For this reason I'm calling the second witch McWitch.

The main reason they don't get along is that McWicth is one of those ‘old school’ magic users who think being a hybrid is inherently a Bad Thing.

The whole “I curse you to be a monster till xyz is done” trope. In actuality they are using magic to change the person into a hybrid, and then using magic to lock them into specific forms depending on what conditions are met.

She also doesn't care that she isn't actually ending the curse when the conditions are met. She's just locking the cursed hybrid into human form thus ‘breaking’ the curse.

And if they get sick/depressed/dysphoric because only having access to half yourself is incredibly bad for one's health, it's not her problem.

So to mess with her cousin McWitch decides to use this type of curse on Robbie who just got blessed who just got preg with Robert.

So of course Mcwitch appears dramatically and does the whole ‘you insulted me by going to my relative for help so I curse your unborn child to turn into a horrible monster every night. Only lasting love found after age 15 can break this curse.” And then poofs away. Purposely not explaining that ‘lasting love’ she's talking about is self-love, cause how is a child cursed to be a ‘monster’ ever love themselves.

God-mother!Witch of course feels someone interfering with magic she's cast and goes to see what's going on. Discovers the curse but since this is very much not her expertise she's only able to disable the ‘permanently locked into human when end conditions are met’ part of the curse.

So once ‘lasting love' is found, Robert can have full control of what hybrid form he is in.

Until then Full-human looking/smelling during the day, slightly more beastal than normal hybrid form at night.

Cue 26 years later, Robert Robertson starts working as a dispatcher and everyone agrees that it is weird that they have never seen him after dark. Sonar meanwhile has been smelling a new hybrid and he's going slightly nuts trying to find out where the smell is coming from.

Since this is a MechaBat idea, plus the whole changing based on daylight cycle nature of the curse…

Robert being cursed from before his birth, not understanding why there's something "wrong" about him.

I can see Robert's "condition" having differences based on the lunar cycle. Like say, every full moon he transforms into a Megabat, and on New Moons he's a tiny regular bat. Every night in-between he's a mixed hybrid, with once-in-a-blue-moon night of being fully human.

It'd be interesting if Robert could sometimes mask as human, even just as Mecha Man - he'd alter his costume to hide his features. I could see his hybrid form, at a glance, looking like a fuzzy version of regular Robert with pointed ears and sharper teeth.

Robert is always nervous about getting home before dark. The Z-Team tease him about it, but they ultimately assume it's a trauma or nyctophobia thing.

Probably takes Robert a while to trust the Z-Team with the details of his curse.

Robert's bat form resembles something like a mixture of;

Painted Bat (Kerivoula picta) Monogamous insectivore species from East Asia. Looks like a Halloween prop as camouflage for dry trees.

Eastern Red Bat (Vespertilio borealis) American species known for eating invasive pests. Typically has multiple babies per litter XD. Looks like a cinnamon donut.

As for Mechabat; my immediate thought was Shrek's reaction to Fiona's transformation at the end of the first film.

Robert: "Hey, before we go any further, I need to show you something important." Victor: "Okay?" Robert: (waits for the sun to go down and transforms into a red-furred Megabat) Victor: "Holy shit!" :D Victor: (transforms into his Megabat form!) Robert, relieved & delighted: "Oh shit!"

Cue happy bat noises.

The experience of growing up and feeling something is fundamentally "wrong" about you, only to meet someone you wears the same "wrongness" proudly.

Sonar adores his cinnamon-bun-shaped bf. The Z-Team are nearly sick to death of hearing about him (except Mal, she thinks it's adorable). Will leave out the identity of his mate if Robert hasn't "come out" yet to the team.

Since DC and Dispatch often crossover in little ways, I'd like to think a certain bulter made a good impression on a lonely lil bat dragged to a Gotham gala.

So much so, that when Victor got tjhe cjance to name his adopted pup, he thought of the name "Alfred" - for the coolest, classiest guy he ever met.

As a side note; I'm working of what Victor's surname may be - I've seen really good ideas that give him a WASP-y english name, noble Venetian, and Hispanic surnames.
