"Yeah Vic works for me" I replied. I was really growing fond of Doctor Hughes I mean he was a genuinely caring person and you could tell he loved his job.

"Well we plan on releasing you today at noon, all of your tests came back clean, you're a perfectly healthy 16 year old and those bruises are fading away quickly." He said

"And don't worry, your memory should come back in time Vic." He added.

Looking at the wall mounted clock I saw that it was only ten thirty in the morning, I had a whole hour and a half to wait before I was allowed to go... I had no idea what I was going to do until then.

"These rooms do come with bathrooms attached you could take a nice warm shower, your parents left a bag with a change of clothes on the table yesterday." He informed me.

Looking over to the table that had the flowers on it I had noticed the bag. How didn't I notice this yesterday? Taking the clothes out of the bag I found a pair of black skinny jeans that were ripped at the knees, a plain white v-neck shirt and a pair of grey Vans. Noticing Dr. Hughes had silently left the room I walked over towards the bathroom.

Closing and locking the door behind me I began to remove the hospital gown, which thankfully DID have a back to it and slipped off the briefs I had on under the gown.

Standing there without clothes I looked over to the mirror above the sink. I was skinny with slightly muscular arms. I felt awkward standing there I wasn't comfortable with what I saw looking back at me, dark brown eyes and wavy shoulder length brown hair to match and a light tan. I just didn't feel like I stood out.

Quickly turning on the water to a tolerable yet warm temperature and stepping in I started to wash myself. I found the soap and shampoo dispenser attached to the shower wall, which both smelt like something grandparents would use.

Finishing the shower I turned off the water and stepped out, grabbing a towel off a rack near the shower to dry off with. I threw the used towel into a hamper labeled "Used Linen" and put the clothes my parent's had left on.

Stepping out of the bathroom I decided I would go to the cafe in the lobby and see Brett again. His flirty remarks left me flustered but I shook it off, maybe I just wasn't use to the attention. I put my shoes on and walked out of the room making my way towards the cafe.

When I arrived at the cafe I noticed that Brett wasn't behind the counter. Looking down to my feet with a small frown, I had really hoped he was working today I had no one else to talk with and an hour left before I got out of here.

"Well look who it is, couldn't get enough of me the first time Victor?" Brett said displaying what I assumed to be his trademark smirk.

"Uh... Well I get out of here in an hour and I wanted to come by and kill some time." I said

"Well aren't you glad I just started my break then? I'll keep you occupied for a bit." He said with a big smile.

"Thanks and I really appreciate yesterday, I definitely felt like I hadn't had anything to eat in three weeks." I said with a small smile.

"It's no big deal but we have to celebrate you leaving this place today! I'll get you something to drink, on me." He said

"Are you sure? You don't have to do that..." I said shyly.

"Sure I do, what do you like?" He asked

I looked at the menu not sure what to order, I knew what each item was but I couldn't remember trying any of them.

"I'm not sure, could you pick for me?" I asked looking away to hide my embarrassment.

"Sure I'll be right back then." He said as he got up and walked to the counter to place his order.

I didn't notice him come back and I was startled when he spoke. "I got you my favorite! I hope you like it." He said as he handed me the warm drink. I took a sip and it was absolutely delicious.

"It's a Crème brûlée latte and I have to admit, I have one every day I work." he said and I could tell why.

"It's so delicious thank you!" I said excitedly. I was starting to warm up to his presence and talking around him seemed to become easier to do. We talked about a lot during his break and I found out that he was 23, born in Los Angeles and currently attending university to become a nurse. In return I told him about the accident and my memory loss.

"Seriously? A nurse! That's hilarious." I laughed at him, I hadn't noticed a single male nurse these past two days.

"Shut up! There are plenty of male nurses these days." He defended.

"Yeah yeah, you should get back to work before you're late." I said.

"I guess so, thanks for coming to see me before you're released. I hope I get to see you again." He said handing me a small piece of paper he had just written something down on.

"Here's my number, feel free to call or text me whenever Vic." He said as I looked at the piece of paper.

"Thanks, but I'm not even sure if I have a phone..." I said

"You'll figure it out Vic, See you later alligator." He said as he left to go back to work, I laughed at how childish that sounded as I turned to walk back to my room. It was eleven thirty by now and I was expecting my parents to come to get me soon.

Walking through the lobby I wasn't prepared for what happened next. I heard someone shout "No running!" I had turned around to look when something collided into me sending me to the floor. I fell on my ass and let me tell you, it really hurt. Looking up I caught a glimpse of the person who knocked me over scrambling to get off the floor, he had black medium length hair with green eyes. He wore grey skinny jeans and a band t-shirt I didn't have time to make out. He mumbled out an apology as he continued to run out of the hospital.

Getting off the floor I returned to my room to find my parents and Mike waiting for me. I noticed that Mike looked terrible and my gut dropped, I hated seeing him worry like this. He ran over and wrapped me in his arms whispering that he was sorry in my ear.

"Uh, who are you?" I decided to joke, perhaps a tad distastefully.

"VICTOR!" My parent's yelled as Mike looked at me with wide eyes, yup definitely not my finest moment since I've woken up.

"Sorry Mike, but c'mon! It was too good of an opportunity, I mean how cliche was that?" I said while laughing.

"Not cool I was actually freaking out for a second there" He said with a huge pout on his face.

"I'm sorry, but it's fine Mike and none of this is your fault." I said as I released him.

"Well now that that's out of the way, we just have to talk to Doctor Hughes before we get you checked out of here." My father said.

My parents left to go find Dr. Hughes leaving Mike and I alone in the small silent hospital room. Mike walked over to the bed and sad down on the edge patting the spot next to him, I obliged and walked over sitting next to him in silence until he broke it.

"Tony and I have been mad worried bro, school hasn't been the same without my big bro there." He said looking at his folded hands that lay on his lap.

"Tony, Who's that a friend of ours? And I'm honestly sorry I wish I could say I remembered what happened." I said.

Mike let out a soft sigh. "It's not your fault I blame that fucking drunk driver.... But he didn't make it through the night after he hit you, drove right into a lamp post." I sat back mortified, the person who hit me had died? I couldn't help but feel sorry for his family even if he had almost taken my life, if anything I felt guilty.

"Anyways, we met Tony back in September when the school year started. Turns out he had moved all the way to San Diego from New York or some shit, he's kinda quiet but he's a great guy, I'm sure you'll like him." He spoke the last part with an odd emotion in his voice that couldn't put my finger on but I let it go.

We sat there in silence, my mind wandering to the boy who ran into me earlier in the lobby. He looked familiar for some reason and I wanted to know who he was. After a few minutes my parents returned with Dr. Hughes.

"Well Vic, You're good to go home now. I talked to your parents about the memory issue and we've agreed it's best not to force you to try and remember. Take it at your own pace." He said.

"Thanks for everything Doc. I appreciate it." I replied honestly.

"It was a pleasure, good luck Vic." He said with an out of character expression on his face.

With that we left to head home, I didn't remember what it looked like but it appeared to be a little ways away from the hospital. Pulling into the driveway of a small yet charming looking home my parents, Mike and I exited the vehicle and walked up towards the door.

"It's beautiful, I just wish I could remember growing up inside of it." I said with a frown. I really did want to remember my past 16 years here.

"Oh sweetie, don't worry about it! Welcome home, Mike will show you to your room and after that I'll whip us up some lunch." My mother said with a hand placed on my shoulder as we walked into our cozy looking home.

"Actually I think I might just lay down after Mike shows me my room, If that's okay Ma'?" I asked.

"Of course sweet heart, you look a little tired just let us know when you're awake." she said

Taking off our shoes Mike led me up the staircase that was just to the side of the front door. He entered the room at the back of the hallway and motioned for me to come inside. Before he turned on the light I noticed a triangular shaped window that overlooked the back yard, the second thing I noticed was how messy the floor was. Clothes and CD's littered the carpet, something I'd have to fix... later that is.

Noticing some posters on the wall of bands I couldn't entirely remember I asked Mike about them. "I listened to these bands?" I said as I looked at a poster for the band called "Memphis May Fire" And another called "You Me At Six"

"Yeah you always did have a good taste in music dude, you had a good singing voice too." He said.

Was I good at singing? The thought never occurred to me but I'd figure it out eventually. investigating further I noticed my closet was organized and that I had a queen sized bed laying in the corner of the room with a small television on a stand across from it. On the bed was a laptop covered in random stickers. Something however caught my eye, under my bed was a black case that appeared to hold a guitar.

"Is that a guitar Mike?" I asked

"Oh! I almost forgot about that. Tony was teaching you how to play the guitar before the accident, you were actually a pretty fast learner." He said.

"Maybe he can come over and continue teaching me sometime? You know, just to get to know him again." I said

"I'm sure he's going to jump at the opportunity." Mike said with a huge grin.

"And before I go, I two things to give you." He said as he retrieved two items from his pocket. Opening his hand I saw an iPhone, It looked older and a little beat up but I accepted it none the less.

"They found it on the road after the accident, the screen was cracked and most of the memory was destroyed but I got it fixed for you, I even put your music back on it and added some contacts." He smiled and I thanked him for it. He then left my room leaving me to look around some more.

Blinding light was the first thing I had noticed and as it started to fade I took in my surroundings. Machines littered the room of what I assumed to be a hospital, connected to these machines were tubes attached to my face and wires attached to my body. Panic struck me and I attempted to rip the wires and tubes off of myself.

"Please Mr. Fuentes, calm down." Asked a lady, my head snapped over to her. She appeared to be in her mid thirties with shoulder length straight brown hair, she had soft facial features and I couldn't help but do what she asked of me.

"What's going on?" I asked but it came out scratchy and hardly understandable.

"Let me grab you some water sweetie! Then I will call the doctor in and he can explain everything, probably a lot better than I could" She smiled at me as she brought a cup filled with ice cold water, I greedily drank every drop of the liquid thanking her with an exhausted sigh.

The nurse left me in the room, I assume to tell the doctor I was awake. I looked over to the other side of the room and noticed flowers sitting on a table. I wasn't sure how long I had been here, but judging by the fact that one of the bouquets was wilting I assumed it had been more than just a day. My stomach dropped at the realization that I could have been here for a lot longer than a week, without any clue as to how I even ended up in here.

A voice caught my attention and my eyes slowly drifted from the flowers to the Doctor, I noted that his name tag said "Hughes"

"Good to see you up Victor, you had us worried for a little bit but I knew you were strong." He spoke in a deep but friendly tone. "Tell me what do you remember before waking up today?"

I tried my hardest but everything was blank except for the faces of my family and a few other small aspects of my life. "Nothing but my family and things like bands I listen to..." I replied.

"I was afraid that might be the case, Victor, you were hit by a car on the night of October 31st." He said.

"I..I don't r-remember that" I stuttered, I was shocked to hear what happened. All I remembered were small pieces of my life, such as starting year 11 in school and my favorite flavor of ice cream.

"That's perfectly fine Victor the rest will come back to you in time, you suffered a serious injury to your brain during the accident but you've recovered fast." He said. I was skeptical about this I had a feeling that it might never come back to me, which only frustrated me.

"I'm going to run some tests just to be sure you're okay and your parent's are on their way, you should be released tomorrow around noon." He said

As he finished his tests he left the room and I was back into my thoughts again. I tried my hardest to remember more about my life but nothing came to me, I let out a frustrated sigh and looked down to my arms. I had been covered in bruises that had began to fade away and small cuts and scratches adorned my forearms. I also noticed a few faint scars that had looked older which I immediately looked away from.

Around half an hour later there was a knock on the door which was then opened to reveal my parents. I remembered their faces but sadly that was it, they walked in looking tired and worn out, had I really made them that worried?

"Victor, sweetie I'm so glad you're finally awake!" My mother said as she rushed over to pull me into a soft embrace.

"Son, It's good to have you back." My father said with watery eyes joining in the embrace.

"I'm happy to see you too.. But I don't know what happened, how long have I been in here?" I asked

"It's November 21st, Victor, It's been three weeks." My father replied.

Three weeks, had it really been that long?

Suddenly I noticed something was missing, Or should I say someone. "Mom, Dad, where's Mike? Shouldn't he be here?" I asked

"Oh honey, Mike's outside in the car, he said he'd see you tomorrow." My mother replied

"If you ask me, I think he's still blaming himself for this." My father said.

"Blaming himself, why would this be his fault dad?" I asked genuinely curious of what my father said.

My father sat at the edge of the bed his eyes on the floor, you could tell that he hadn't slept properly for the past three weeks. "You asked him if he would go for a walk with you, you told him you wanted to talk and he said no." He said.

"How does that make any of this his fault? He shouldn't blame himself it was just an accident." I said, honestly I don't blame him for any of this.

"Honey, Mike cares about you a lot and I'm sure he just wishes he could have been there so that this could have been prevented." My mom said.

"When you see him please let him know I don't blame him at all." I asked.

Just the thought of my family worrying and blaming themselves for this made my heart ache. They didn't deserve this and suddenly I was feeling like a burden on their shoulders.

"Okay Victor, we have to go now, but we will be back to get you tomorrow at noon." My mother said.

"Bye mom, Bye dad, I love you and I'm sorry I've worried you and Mike so much." I apologized.

"Nonsense Victor, we love you and we're just glad you're coming home." They replied in unison causing them to glance at each other with soft smiles displayed on their faces.

After my parents had left a nurse came and removed the wires and tubes from my body, also informing me I was free to walk around for an hour. After stretching my limbs I got off the bed and walked towards the door hesitantly opening it and stepping into the hallway. The halls were wide and I had noticed rooms on each side that nurses and doctors had been making their way in and out of various rooms.

As I continued to walk down the halls with no destination in mind I stumbled across a window, I walked up to it and gazed outside. It was a cool day out, people had jackets on as they made their way down the busy sidewalks. I had also noticed that I was on the ground floor of the hospital, which I was thankful about for some reason.

Resuming my walk I had stumbled across a snack bar, kind of like a cafe and my stomach let out a small growl. I walked over to the display of fresh baked goods and saw a wide variety of delicious pastries. I had my eyes set on the chocolate danish but I realized I didn't have any money to pay with, I let out a disappointed sigh and turned to walk away. Just before I took a step a voice called out to me.

"Hey kid, the chocolate one right?" The man asked and I turned to face the man working there. He was around twenty five and could easily be described as unique, with dark green eyes and dirty blonde hair.

"Uh, What?" I asked confused.

"You were looking at the chocolate danish right?" he asked

"Uh.... I mean yeah, I was." I replied, my cheeks flushed and I felt embarrassed.

He put the danish on a plate and heated it up, bringing it over to me once it was done. I just stared at him feeling a blush creep up on my cheeks, why I was blushing I honestly had no clue.

"Here, it's on the house today." He said as he handed me the danish.

My mouth was watering just looking at it, I mean it had been three weeks since I had last had anything to eat.

"Your parent's spent a fair amount of time in here over the past three weeks, and after what you've been through you deserve something good." He said.

"I appreciate this... Uh I didn't catch your name." I said

"It's Brett, and it's really not a problem besides, you're too cute." Brett said with a wink.

My face immediately became hot and I looked away from the man in front of me. Looking up at the wall mounted clock to the left, I noticed I had to go back to my room.

"Th..Thanks, I've got to get back to my room." I struggled to keep my tone normal

"Alright.. Victor wasn't it?" I nodded. "Well I hope we meet under better circumstances sometime!" He added.
