This was the first RAF Sqn to receive these. The Wellesley holds the world record for the longest non-stop flight by a single piston-engined aircraft of 7,162 miles (11,526 km). (FTP)

The Vickers Wellesley was a medium bomber. In a geodetic design (as used in the R100 Airship) the structural members form a light, robust and damage tolerant lattice work. The name geodetic arises from the designer creating load paths along geodesics – a geodesic being the shortest distance between two points on a curved surface.By the outbreak of World War ll some 100 Wellesleys remained in RAF service in the Middle East, being used operationally against Italian forces at a later stage and remaining in use for maritime patrol until 1941.
