Day Six: teachers!au
Albert got to class early that morning to prepare everything. In the early hours before anyone showed up he dusted the room and cleaned all surfaces. Then he sat at his desk, nervously rearranging all his papers as his students filtered in. This was an important day today - the principal was coming to sit in on his history class. Albert prided himself on his teaching, and got along fairly well with his students, but the thought of being inspected made him extremely nervous. What made it worse was that he had a huge crush on the principal.
Her name was Victoria Kent, and she was very out of his league. She was beautiful, witty, clever, confident and everyone loved her. Albert couldn’t help but feel jealous when he saw her chatting to other teachers and preferring their company to his - particularly the male ones. They had talked a few times but Albert had rambled and he was worried she was just talking with him to be polite. Anyway, even if he wanted to he couldn't ask her out because she was the principal and he was a measly social science teacher.
And in a couple minutes she would be here. Drawing a deep breath, he got out of his chair and turned to the whiteboard, writing out the lesson plan neatly. He had just put the cap on the pen when the bell rang and Victoria swept in like an angel from above. She looked very pretty in her tailored pants, white blouse and heels. Her hair was tied back which highlighted her luminous blue eyes. The students shuffled around as she came to greet Albert with a smile.
"Mr Coburg, how good to see you" she greeted warmly. "I hope you were expecting me?"
"Of course Miss Kent, there is a desk at the back for you to occupy." He nodded at her with a small smile before turning to address his class of teenagers.
"Right class! As you should know Miss Kent is observing you today so please show some respect and be on your best behaviour." He winked at them before turning to face the board. His history class was one of the best behaved in the school so he wasn't worried about that. It was his teaching that might fall under the mark.
He was teaching them about British monarchy today, a subject he was particularly passionate about, so the class flew by faster than expected. He almost forgot about Victoria in the corner, apart from when he would look up and see her smiling serenely at the back, scribbling a word or two onto her notepad. It made him lose track of what he was saying a couple times, but everything else ran smoothly. When the bell rang for next class he fell into his chair in relief. He had no class next period and was grateful for the break.
What he didn't expect was to look up after a minute and see that Victoria had approached his desk. She met his eyes with a smile, and perched herself on the edge. "Would you like to hear how you went?" She asked.
Albert was taken aback. Usually he got a report in a week or so, or a meeting if things went terribly. He had avoided that meeting so far - but never did the principal share her thoughts straight after. It must have gone terribly then, Albert assumed glumly. "Well alright then" he answered. Best to get it over with.
"Albert, your teaching is amazing. I was very impressed with the way you handled those students. Your content is interesting and you are very engaging. I could find nothing to critique" she admitted.
Albert stared at her. Was she serious?! Praise on his teaching was a great boost to him, but from the principal - from Victoria - it was the best thing he had heard in a long time. "Thank you Victoria. That means a lot."
"You're welcome..." She gathered her belongings and got up to leave but paused at the door. "Albert" she sounded apprehensive as she faced him. "I was wondering...would you be interested in going on a date with me?" Her voice sounded nervous, and she bit her lip.
Albert felt like he could sing for joy. Victoria was asking him out! He felt like a teenage boy, all lovesick over a girl. But he reigned in his emotions and managed to keep a straight face as he said: "Well yes, but only on one condition."
"Yes what is it?" Victoria was anxious.
"Don't tell the kids. They'll tease me to no end" he said with a laugh.
She looked relieved. "Of course, tomorrow night at 8pm at that Indian restaurant then?
He could barely contain his excitement. "It's a date."
