Tamil Nadu Govt Denies Permission for BJP's Vetrivel Yatra
Politics has intensified ahead of BJP’s Vetrivel yatra as the Tamil Nadu government denies permission for the campaign. A day before the beginning of Vetrivel Yatra, the Tamil Nadu government denied giving permission for the BJP’s mass campaign. The AIADMK-led government in Tamil Nadu informed the Madras High Court that it has decided to not allow the Vetrivel campaign fearing the second wave of covid infections in the state. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vk-yQeL1rTk According to mythology and ancient Tamil literature, ‘Vetrivel’ means the victorious and divine javelin by which Lord Muruga killed the demon Soorapadma. The Vetrivel yatra planned by the BJP would have a month-long campaign from Nov 6 to Dec 6 and cover six sacred abodes of ‘Lord Muruga’ in the state. The BJP was all set to embark on a month-long tour starting from Tiruttani to Tiruchendur situated from North to South of Tamil Nadu. The rejection can become a major setback for the BJP which wants to make inroads in the Dravidian-dominated Tamil political ground. The mass campaign was to appeal to the Hindu sentiments in the state by relating itself to a local god.
