location: the rebel base
It was normal for the Rebel base to have an extended network of rumours stretching across it in all directions. Sometimes the rumours were meaningless to the wider concern of the Rebellion, like who was sneaking extra snacks from the canteen or who was kissing who. Sometimes the rumours took on a more serious tone, like a former First Order officer had defected and was now staying at their base. Rose did her best to ignore the rumours and only pay attention to actual facts but the rumours about the defector caught her attention.
Rose despised the First Order with every fibre of her being. But her hate didn’t not eclipse her capacity for empathy. This defector may have done terrible, awful things in the name of the First Order but they were apparently willing to change and help stop the First Order from doing any more harm to the galaxy. That meant something to Rose. So she grabbed an extra portion of whatever stew they were serving in the canteen and went to find the defector.
“Hello?” Rose called out once she had reached the room in which the defector was supposed to be staying in. “I’m sorry if I’m disturbing you but I’ve brought you some food. Hope you’re hungry.” Rose waited in the doorway to be called inside.

Lando admired the ships that were due to be used in the upcoming race. Not one of them could compare to the Millennium Falcon but truth be told, Lando would always be extremely biased in that respect. One or two of the ships had real potential though and Lando noted their names and who the pilots were in his datapad. He started to run the numbers on the possible odds for the race based on the information he had gathered so far when he noticed a familiar face.
“Hello stranger,” he said, approaching Iden with a casual stroll. The two of them didn’t know each other well yet but Lando knew Iden used to fly for the Empire before defecting to the Rebellion. He hadn’t expected to see her here today but he wasn’t surprised. Spies for either side got into all kinds of places and spaces. “You flying today? Or have you just come to watch the drama of the race?”

seyn frowns deeply, the upset expression almost foreign on their features --- at least, when directed at iden, that is. “if you get yourself killed on one of these missions, i don’t think i’ll go to your funeral,” they say dryly, utterly deadpan. as confident as they are in iden’s abilities ( & they’re very confident, iden has always been highly capable ), she takes too many risks, comes an inch too close to death too often. it’s not --- they try to be as rational as possible. so far, they know, her luck & her skill have held.
the thought that one day they won’t scares the shit out of them, as much as they don’t want to admit it.

There's a small laugh that leaves their lips at the other's words. He moves, blaster in hand and takes shelter behind a crumbling wall. There's a breath upon their tongue and their gaze shifts to look to Iden. The battle had felt as if it had waged on for years, but it had probably only been a matter of hours. Instead, he releases the breath he's held, nodding more so to themselves than Iden. "I never believed in Gods." Cassian states, leaning out from behind the wall, taking a few shots before covering again. "But I do believe in escape plans." The small laugh returns again and they're looking over to Iden. "We've got the ships at our backs and the quicker we can get to them, the faster we'll be out of this nightmare and in a cantina."

leia wasn’t one to indulge. she didn’t smoke, not really --- but every once in awhile, the smell of one of her father’s old cigarras would settle her nerves like nothing else could. the alderaanian brands were rare, these days, but she had some carefully tucked away, scrupulously saved. the smoke filled the air, & her breathing slowed, calming.
“you caught me,” she said dryly, waving the smoke away from their faces as iden approached. “don’t tell han, he’ll be insufferable.” but she wasn’t truly suited to hiding her feelings behind humor, no matter how wry, & she quickly sobered as she snuffed the cigarra out, near smile disappearing. “it’s good to see you, iden.”
