“relax, you don’t have to try and flatter me, i just helped you fix your laptop.” he’s not much of the technical genius but he’s read the books and he knows how to do it just now how to perfom it. however when he saw the device he had easily known what to do ( and done it of course ! ) just in a little more clumsy way than anyone would expect. but after all, vernon is only book smart, he doesn’t know how to work things that aren’t written about. he knows how to fix a computer because he’s read so many how to’s and manuals in the past years, for fun. that which used to be his hobby now remains a secret like a ghost in his past - it’s too fucking embarrassing to tell people that you used to be a super nerd? so he seals it off, shuts up and locks it in - pretends that he’s not a seventeen year old kid with an eidetic memory.

    && ROLLING  her eyes as she punched his shoulder and sighed. He ever really knew how to take nice things being said to him and was a smartass about stuff, but she didn’t mind it. She looked at her laptop and checked to make sure all her things were in order and still saved. well. she didn’t have much but family and friend pictures and a few computer games.

           ❝ Thanks again, I owe you. And you can’t say no, or I’ll drag you out anyways so it’s better to just agree and go along with me whenever we go.❞ Shrugging her shoulders as she got up and closed her laptop and picked up her skateboard.

It was hard for Areum to accept anyone at all into her life. Lately, however, people seemed to matter much more to her, seemed to make her much more happy, seemed to make her smile. Areum was not used to smiling-- and yet there were still people who were able to make her lips curve up. No matter how hard she pushed them away, eventually, she would accept them into her life, because they never gave up on her.

However, Vernon and Areum weren’t exactly best friends. He was a younger version of herself-- or better yet, a male version of her younger self. Careless, sarcastic, self destructive. They seemed to push each other away, yet they always kept the other around, having both of them at safe distance. Areum secretely took care of him, watching over the younger one despite the many bickering and fights between them.

It seemed as they were brother and sister but neither of them seemed to want to admit they really did care about each other.

Until that day.

“Why do you always get yourself hurt god damnit?” It wasn’t really a question, more like an observation, together with a groan that showed her displeasure for the wound on his knee, probably due to another afternoon in the skatepark.“Why do you care?” The words uttered by the youngster had her frowning. Was he even serious?

“Fuck Vernon, seriously? You’re like a brother to me. Stopping getting into shit that only makes your life worse. Seriously.” Tapping his forehead with her finger, she then stood up from her kneeling position in front of him when she had been examining his wound, quickly sliding her hands inside the pockets of her leather jacket. “Get your ass up. We’re going to grab something to eat. My treat.”

he stares down at the floor and the spilled food, nails still scratching at the back of his neck almost nervously as he shakes his head. it’s not something to be mad about, is it? even though vernon is pretty known for his bad temper ( which doesn’t make it any easier for him to keep calm ) but of course he decides that stressing over a thing like this ain’t worth it. “naaah…” comes the long drawn answer, head now craned to the side as he lets out a sigh. “nah it’s okay… it’s okay.” yet his lip juts out into a small pout, brows knitted together in a furrow. “it’s jus’ a dropped egg, it’s fine.”

if this was yet another box with confetti he would burst. vernon doesn’t like loud and colorful surprises, in fact he doesn’t like surprises at all. but since the box seemed to contain more than just confetti he couldn’t let it stand here in the hallway. it’d make him seem even more rude. following the instructions of the note, he opens the box inside the apartment without shoving his entire face into it. and just as described, confetti bursts out and rains down over the table. well fuck. he likes cakes but isn’t entirely sure he should put anything in his mouth if he doesn’t know where the fuck it came from. so leaving the box and the cake on the table, he heads to the stairs and searches for room 333. luckily he knows his way around from being here before which makes it an easy task to find the right door. raising a hand to knock, he the steps back and waits to see if the tenant is home.

"Forgot what?” Well. Something. Obviously since he doesn’t really know. Mingyu had spent the day earlier finishing a lecture and doing his regular volunteering, but with his eye kept on the calendar and the day, with Vernon on the other line on speaker; he was having a hard time figuring out what Vernon couldn’t believe he forgot. “Were we supposed to hang out today? My mom says hi, by the way,” Mingyu rattled the cat toy in front of his kitten, Capheus, while his mom, now satisfied, sat organizing side dishes by the screen door. Mingyu furrowed his brows harder. 

Ding.

“OH FUCK!” He exclaimed, his mother turning around and scolding him immediately. With no time to acknowledge his mother yelling at him for his potty mouth. With Vernon still on the line, he scrambled to his feet, dashed into his room, grabbed his bag, wallet, and a sweater, apologized ever so briefly to his mother, and zipped out of the house.

“I didn’t know that was today! I’ll meet you in five minutes at your bus stop!”
