WARNINGS: Not proofread, obsessive (one sided) mentions of suicide, spoilers for episode three (mentioned) Verity being Verity
Verity had been on this cycle for months, with only Mob being the only person who had come back for him. Just to kill himself later on, nobody wanted to stay, nobody cared to stay. Not for him, not for him.
You were the next person after Mob, you were so cheerful. you were like Mob before Verity had killed Twixxel. Before anything had gone wrong. He wouldn't let himself be alone again.
It'd already been two days, the urges were getting stronger with Verity. He believed you would forgive him if he did something. But he didn't want to ruin it again for himself.
"Something is coming in three days." He stated to you.
You glanced at him, confused. As just a minute ago he'd been helping with getting logs for your next build, you had been planning on making a village. Since most villages you'd seen had been raided..or something.
"Whats coming in three days?" You asked.
"Something." Verity stated.
"Can I stop it?"
Verity felt a slight flashback to Mob, honestly he wasn't sure if he'd healed from that or not. But Mob turned out to be just like the rest of them, so what did it matter if he dwelled on it or not.
"You could've."
"I could've? Err..well that doesn't sound great." You paused, thinking for a moment before smiling.
"Well I should make some defenses then, huh?"
"That won't help."
"Hah? What will?"
"Nothing."
"Oh, well. Maybe you're not all knowing then! I'm sure the traps'll atleast slow..whatever it is down!"
"It will, but not for long." Verity said.
"Uhhhhuh. You're not very positive, Verity."
The conversation ended there, and you'd started setting up traps around your base. One was a lava pit, you weren't sure if whatever it was..was dumb enough to fall in it, but if it was a regular mob then maybe.
You didn't know what it was though.
You also made a watchtower, thanks to Verity's recommendation. Maybe whatever creature was coming..might not be able to get high up? You didn't know.
But you knew you needed to protect yourself, and Verity. Even if he was a mod, you weren't sure if he could get hurt.
So on the second day, you asked.
"Verity?" You looked at him, sitting on the bed in your freshly made watchtower.
"Yes?" Verity asked.
"Can whatever's coming- harm you?"
He blinked, confused. What? Nobody had ever asked that of him before. "No."
"Are you what's coming, Verity?"
".." He didn't answer, instead deciding to jump up on your lap. "We should focus on making more traps! I can even help you find some diamonds!"
"I don't need your help Verity, but thank you." You decided to ignore the fact you now knew what was coming..was indeed Verity.
"I'm your personal helper, I'm meant to be helpful!" His smile seemed strained now.
"..I know, but you've done a lot." You said, you wondered if you could prevent this just by being nicer maybe, not that you hadn't been.
"Maybe you should get some rest Verity, if you can after all."
"I am an AI! I can't rest, I'm designed to be your personal helper!" He said, though as his voice got more energetic, the more he seemed less happy.
"Okay, Verity. If you want to help so badly, let's head out on an adventure yeah? You can help me find diamonds if you are up to it!"
He nodded, jumping off your lap and to your satchel that he always went in.
One more day, you'd be back by then and could hopefully deal with whatever Verity was.
You had gotten back early, yes. Enough time to maybe organize the things you'd gotten on the way, but you didn't know the specific time that Verity was..going to come after you?
You weren't sure. But you also didn't know if leaving him in your house was a great option either. So you had made another room, calling it 'his part of the house'.
You didn't want to outright leave him, but if things got messy you made a few escapes in the house. And a locked door from his part of the house.
You couldn't just let him know that you were scared of him and wanted him to leave.
That'd be cruel.
Verity noticed how you'd given him his own room, which was odd. No doubt you knew what he was, and that he was the creature that was coming.
So why? Why do this for him?
You were better than mob, better than any person he had before. He knew that you would forgive him if he did anything in this state.
