"The landscape is so dramatic in so short a space.  First you're on a sandy trail, then you’re in a redwood forest in a crevasse, and then you rise above it. There is a very cool breeze blowing, you almost need a jacket.  Suddenly you are on top and the ocean is beneath your feet.  You are on the edge of the wilderness here.  You still feel safe.  But you could step off if you wanted to.

Big Sur is one of the best places I have ever been and come back to.  The best times are sitting in the river, feet in the cold water, drinking beer after being on a hot ass mountain.  I like that.  I like all the open space.

You have to preserve these places.  We couldn’t access them if we developed them.  You want to be able to go back, you know?  One person shouldn’t be able to have all the good stuff. You know?”
