anyway more about Vendis (as i wrote this it became a little origin story whoops)
he was Sofie's friend in Windhelm, but when a seven foot khajiit in heavy armor came to adopt her, he ran away in fear because holy fuck its a giant bear man. Sofie couldn't find him so she didnt get to say goodbye, or offer for him to come with her.
they say that both of his parents were lost to addiction and either overdosed or had a bad batch. their apartment was cleared and Vendis was placed on the street. as much as his neighbors in the Grey Quarter tried to help, they had their own problems, and their own struggles. at times the best they could manage was feeding him their leftover scraps.
a few people here and there attempted to take care of him, but werent sure how. he never spoke, never looked at anyone, and was prone to violent outbursts when overwhelmed. during his worst outbursts, he would become encased in flames too hot for anyone to touch.
when Gael noticed Vendis, he asked around the Grey Quarter to get as much information on him that he could. everyone seemed to care for the boy, but were also afraid to upset him. it was rumored that the last time someone bullied him, they were reduced to nothing but a pile of ash and blackened bones.
Gael could relate to the volatility of Vendis' magic and the way it made people around him feel. Gael had also grown up having similar behaviors and outbursts, and these behaviors were painstakingly trained out of him until he wondered at times how much of himself was real, and how much was a mask of other people.
Gael, who was living at Tel Mithryn at the time, offered to take Vendis to a land where people who look like him are treated with respect, where he would sleep in a warm bed and eat fresh fish and vegetables every day. Vendis, naturally, didn't respond, but began to follow Gael around the city.
As fascinated he was with Gael, he was even more interested in Teldryn. He had never seen such organic looking armor before. the chitin was rock hard and made an interesting noise when he knocked on it, and the leather made his fingers tingle when he felt it. it didnt take long for Vendis to begin to idolize Teldryn and he decided that he too wanted to be a spellsword.
Vendis' favorite possession became a wooden sword and he started developing a passion for swordfighting. Gael taught him to read and write, and soon Vendis started communicating through written notes.
everything Vendis does, he does to the best of his ability, he becomes obsessed with the feeling of success and eventually becomes a perfectionist (much like Gael)
hes prone to being moody and judgemental, but in general hes a much happier kid with fewer outbursts.
maybe he'll be a heroic main character someday...
