“According to the interviews with the sons – at least the ones they could get to talk – they have the ten year old son pick out his bride before the family targets them and kills their family,” Luke said as he pulled on his own gloves.
“Well that’s a romantic first outing,” Ren quipped as he stepped past Luke, shoulder brushing him unintentionally in the narrow entryway.
“The…kidnapping the bride and picking her out specifically,” Ren tilted his head, confused, “what did you think I meant?”
“I–nothing, never mind,” Luke brushed it off, quickly stepping around Ren and hustling up the stairs to the primary bedroom. Ren followed after a brief pause and stopped in the doorway while Luke began pacing around the blood-soaked bed.
“Are you…okay? You seem especially jumpy lately.” Ren asked, walking the walls of the bedroom while Luke hovered over the bed.
“Yeah I just…Roxy didn’t let me get much sleep last night.”
“Is this the part where I should say lucky you?” Ren chuckled.
“Depends, Roxy’s my Belgian Shepard,” Luke turned and couldn’t help but grin slightly.
“Oh, well then definitely lucky you,” Ren grinned back, before his face rapidly transformed into one of concern, “unless she was sick. She wasn’t sick, was she?”
“No, no, nothing like that, just…sugar high or something. Not that I fed her anything different than usual.”
“I get that. Tyr’s a handful no matter what or when I feed him.”
“My sole companion and also a Bernese Mountain Dog mix, yes, to answer the question you didn’t get to ask back in the briefing room.”
Luke’s head snapped around, “You–”
“Noticed? Of course I did, Alvez, I might be a rookie profiler, but I can still notice when someone’s mouth drops open to say something,” Ren laughed, striding over to check the bathroom attached to the bedroom. Though when he did his laughter stopped. “Luke, you may want to look at this.”
