Severity of war is lost on a boy whose greatest concern is following in the footsteps of his father. Siegbert is five and still naive enough to perceive bloodied hands as an emblem of virtue. His father defeats storybook villains and delivers justice with a roaring blade. Possessing the might of a lion, he is invincible and ever righteous. According to Siegbert's picture book, even lions value their families. It serves as a reminder, however juvenile, to how father manages to balance power with strength of character and heart.
An adoring son will go to any length to celebrate the man he deems so deserving of his admiration. In preparation for the momentous occasion, he had enlisted the aid of mother to bake a cake worthy of his hero. The sheer variety of flavors had perplexed Siegbert, but she assured him she knew a recipe for Xander’s favorite. He had helped as best he could. There was only so much a child could do when an oven was involved.
“ Um ! Mama said I couldn’t carry it all because it was too heavy, ” the boy informs his father sounding somewhat dispirited to be bested by a mere pastry. Luckily the frown passes after a moment. He’s always been a well-behaved child and even the occasional pout is short-lived. His small face pauses solemnly before dashing out of the room to make a trip to the kitchen. The tapping of little feet against the floors of Castle Krakenberg is audible. In his excitement, he neglects to remember that running in the halls is prohibited. His steps are substantially quieter on the return trip as he proceeds with excess caution. A slice of cake accompanied by a fork is carefully presented to his father. “ We baked this for you. Mama did most of it... I helped though ! ” he insists earnestly.
Expectant gaze is fixated on his father in starry-eyed wonder. He beams, petite lips drawn into a half moon. “ Happy Birthday, Papa. ” Lids flutter cheerfully as he rocks on his heels and head cants slightly to the side. “ You're the greatest. One day, I'll be growned up and fight besides you. Please watch me until then ! ” He pleads innocently with little grasp of their nation's situation with Hoshido. It is beyond the comprehension of a child his age. The world revolves around his constant father as he assumes it will for years to come.
