My friend, Birds of a Feather is one of my fav fics I have ever read so please excuse me, I got some things I wanna know *clears throat, straightens paper*
“Lucanis struggled a little to release himself from Velasco's arms so that he could pull away slightly and get a better look at him. "Mi vida, what happened to you?" Lucanis asked, worried and distressed in his tone and expression, as he ran his fingers lightly over Velasco's facial scars. Looking deeply into his blinded eye. Lucanis' other hand was running its fingers through Velasco's choppy hair. What Lucanis last remembered as being beautifully long and typically braided or tied up in a loose bun was now nothing more than a layered mess. It was as if it had been hacked at and swiftly touched up to try and recover from a mistake as best as possible.
"I will tell you later." Velasco eventually responded. He couldn't bring himself to part from Lucanis – the possibility that this was a dream or a figment of his imagination was still far too plausible – if he let go, who's to say that Lucanis won't just disappear again? He couldn't let that happen, not again. It would hurt him far more than it did the first time. He wouldn't be able to live through that again. And he sure as hell won't let Alecto live through his untimely decisions again either. He couldn't, and he won't. He had made a promise to her.”
So a lot is happening here and ouch my heart, I’m glad their together but it’s also so sad 😭😭
So what was your build up process to this? Did you have it planned or were you more spur of the moment with it? What does this moment mean to you in the broader sense of the fic? And how was it getting to write Lucanis in and having to navigate what that meant for their and Alecto’s relationship?
Don’t worry about all my questions lol which ever you feel like answering! 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
Oh wow. Straight in with the feels on this one.
Honestly, the only thing I had planned going into this part was that Lucanis was back from the dead and Velasco wasn't going to be okay emotionally speaking. Otherwise, it all just kinda spilt out from my brain, and I think that was better for this than having a concrete plan. It really lets the emotions flow, and the characters carry the scene rather than the narrator alone.
And it was surprisingly easy - okay, maybe not the best word for it, but I can't think of another - to add Lucanis back into the relationship. Truly, he never left where Velasco was concerned, and everyone knew as much (me and @alystrin03 as well as Alecto and the other characters in the story). And it felt complete. The missing piece had finally been found, and Velasco could breathe again. Whole and deep. Rather than broken and shaking with the hurt.
I can't say much for Alecto and her opinions in the matter, but from what Aly wrote in Alecto's pov, she was struggling at first. Set on the fact that now Velasco had his first back, he no longer needed her. After all, she was only his second. A replacement in the grand scheme of things. Of course, she was completely wrong and missed the ball. But I can see where she was coming from. I would have done the same in her place.
But like with most things in life, they all - eventually - sat down and had a conversation about this and sorted out any miscommunication or silly thoughts. Not without some ups and downs in the spaces in between, of course, but that's because I'm a whore for angst and must have it in order to sustain myself 😌✨️
Thank you for the questions @dragonagegayz ❤️❤️❤️
Please send me more if you have any, I'd love to answer them!
And @alystrin03 if you would like to add to this post, please do! This is just as much your story as it is mine 🫶🫶🫶
